Which 5mts are compatabile with an ej22 95 Legacy?

Post by na3s »

I have a '95 Legacy LSi AT 2.2.....The 4eat is starting to go and I'm considering swaping the 4eat for a 5mt. A friend of mine has done this in his Subaru and will be giving me a hand. I'm trying to figure out which models have compatible 5mts so I know what to look for on ebay, craigslist, and at the junkyard. As I understand it any 5mt from any ej motor should fit as long as the rear diff matches the tranny....I understand that various years have different electronic compatibility concerns but mechanically they should all line up.....Am I correct? Will a 5mt from any year Legacy or Impreza fit regardless of wether or not it's a 2.2 or 2.5? Or are there certain models that aren't compatible? Is there a way to determine which will fit based upon a serial or vin number stamped on the tranny anywhere? Any and all help would be really appreciated....Thanks

You're new, that's cool. Search! You'll learn more that way.

But yeah, any 90 and up subaru tranny will fit, with the exception of the loyales/GLs

A 5MT from a 2.5 will mate up to a 2.2 just fine.
