Head Swap question

Post by czaplicki »

I have a 2.2T (EJ22T) Legacy engine. I would like to rebuild it for rally. I want to get more power out of it. I would like to change the heads to 2.5 heads (NA EJ25), do pistons, cams, etc. Does anyone know what heads I can run (what years, phase, and head gasket?). Any brand on pistons, and cams? Anything would help!

Yes, please use the search function that the forum offers. I will offer this link as assistance for you since my motor has the swap done:

Since youve done the swap. What did you do about the larger diameter of the 2.5 head vs the 2.2 block?

And what did you do about the oil line not mating from the 2.2 block to the 2.5 manifold?

You have to drill and tap a new fittting for the oil line, and always use the gasket that corresponds to the head. It is a HEADgasket.

Or you can use the oil filter sandwich. That's what I'm using and a few other people w/ Imprezas have done the same & it works just fine.

If you've got a caged car, you're probably running p4, but swapping heads would put you head to head with open class cars right?

Yeah headswap can net some serious gains, but its not for the faint of heart.
