brake pad/rotor bedding and break in?

Post by slowjoe »

i've been searching for a thread on this and haven't been able to find anything. if there is a specific thread about this, i would greatly appreciate of someone showed me. I have warped rear rotors and worse than stock pads so changing both would be nice but i can wait on either and do it in whatever order is best.

Just do some initial regular stopping to warm them up a little, the do a few 60-10 sessions. This should work. It has been posted on here with good results.

I used their procedure on my pads, and it seems to have worked great.

thanks!
This first set of stops in the bed-in process is only complete when all ten stops have been performed - not before. The system should then be allowed to cool, by driving the vehicle at the highest safe speed for the circumstances, without bringing it to a complete stop with the brakes still applied.
does this mean to drive at speed while still pressing on the brakes? i thought that wasnt good

no it means don't come to a complete stop and hold the brakes down. That will leave uneven pad deposits and cause that "warped" rotor feeling right off the bat.

brake bedding bed brakes

+1 for the stoptech write up. I had no idea about adherant interaction!
It well predicted the process of bedding my yellowstuff pads, my 4th set they bit hard, by 6 they were "fading" and stinking.

Hopefully the key words above help searchers in the future.......

I've done this. It works. Just watch out for Johnny Law and John Q Public while you are doing...

True true, in the city would be dangerous and totally not cool. I was out in the country and still felt I might be drawing negative attention.

Oh ya, and get ready to burn about a quarter tank of gas! That's what i did while doing 20+ 10 to 100 KM/h sprints......

I actually had smoke or brake dust come off mine at one point - big puff in the front!
