rod knock
i have rod knock and was wondering what caused it? i know low oil but oil is fine anyone had problems with oil pumps? Anyone use BG cleaner additives(oil)? A friend of mine was f-ing around and playing with the boost control joking about was it a boost control?!? and i wasn't looking but he may have broken it i'm not sure i asked but he wouldn't say.. would that cause over boost and inturn a spoone bearing? i was lucky enough to find this out just after putting it back together with new timing belt, water pump, knock sensor, o2 sensor, oil, mass air, brake pads, rotors... freaking sweet. any thoughts?comments?
i guess i'm the forum a-hole now
Re: rod knock
Well it definitely wasn't sweet finding a spun rod bearing LOL! If your friend "did something" to create more boost you would have felt that in power delivery. Otherwise, if it's a higher mileage motor then anything is possible.91riored wrote:i have rod knock and was wondering what caused it? i know low oil but oil is fine anyone had problems with oil pumps? i had the same thing happen to mine. it was running fine, then i put synthetic oil and an oil cleaner in there. it seemed to run fine.
then a day later i started to hear it

Well 80k isn't exactly low mileage either
Besides, if you aren't the original owner (?) then the history is a bit unknown. Things like oil and filter service intervals and how the car was treated. Do you or have you driven the car hard? Are you certain that there haven't been any vacuum leaks in the past while the car was driven? Part throttle, light load detonation is no good either. Sh*t happens. Sorry 'bout the rod bearing but now you've got to decide what your next move is.
