subie stealer ship

Post by 92ss satinsvoice »

so i went to the dealer ship and asked what it would cost to get the seals replaced on my sun roof cause it leaking bad. they said that the glass and the seal are not separable so i would have to buy at new window. and that would cost me 1500 total for labber too.

im thinking holy crap thats alot of money. i just didnt want to deal with it my self but for that amount of money, wtf.

Your going to have to take it out anyway. Might as well just fix it yourself.

My sunroof was leaking too. I took the easy route to fix it by unscrewing the top of the sunroof so I could lift the rails up a bit. Then I put silicone under the rails and screwed it back down. Hasn't leaked yet.

The rubber around the glass is rarely the problem. In fact if everything else is working properly its ok for water to leak past it!

You need to take it apart and caulk under the rails and make sure the drains are not clogged. Less than 5$ and it will work like new again.

Yeah, what he said :D

The seal doesn't really keep water out, so much as stop wind noise... the drain system pipes water down into the wheel wells. Mine are full of rust flakes from the sunroof frame deteriorating :x
The headliner needs to come down, and all the drain tubes cleaned out.

Mine leaked like crazy and people wouldnt ride with me in the rain. I used windshield sealant on my tracks and havent have a problem since. Just pull up the tracks, clean off the old rock hard gasket material and run a new bead.
