ABS went retard
when ever i come to a stop the abs starts to freak out and i can feel it in the pedal, its a very loud noise that comes from the booster or something. anyone else have this problem or know how i can reset or fix it.
Re: ABS went retard
Are you sure it's not just the ABS kicking in and working, or is this happening any time you hit the brakes? Remove the ABS fuse once to disable the system, see if it goes away and then you can work from there.lucas wrote:when ever i come to a stop the abs starts to freak out and i can feel it in the pedal, its a very loud noise that comes from the booster or something. anyone else have this problem or know how i can reset or fix it.

sounds like normal abs function to me.
but if it's doing it EVERY stop, then you either are braking too hard for conditions, or a tire is way low/overinflated, or you've got a bigger problem that will cost money to fix.

Does the ABS warning light come on? If so, you should read the codes.
That said, do what ciper said! Brake problems are scary things, so if your ABS system is acting up you should disable it.

1993 legacy ss 115123mi 5mt, has everything as far as i know. Shes mechanical, one of the most durable cars ive ever owned. Almost as tough as my s-10 (336,789mi orig motor and tranny). Its weird when the abs goes nuts, it seems like it only does it when theres pressure on the system, or if you just rest you foot on the pedal. It feels like ive just mashed on the brakes from a high speed to try and stop. i have no idea whats causing it and ive tired to find a new abs unit, but either the shipping is outrageous on ebay or all the pick-a-parts dont have a legacy.

Your car's ABS computer will only show trouble codes while the ABS warning light is on.
If I had to guess I would say your problem is most likely an issue with a sensor or a tone ring.
But what you describe there kind of sounds like it could be an issue with the brake booster or master cylinder.
Definitely remove the ABS fuse. It's one of the big red fuses in the underhood fuse box if I remember correctly. If the problem goes away then you know it's the ABS system (which you could either try to fix or simply leave inoperative), and if it doesn't then you know it's probably something else.
