Whiteline RCA kit. First Impressions.

Post by boro »

Whiteline Extended Ball joints KCA313
Whiteline Sport Tie Rods KCA313
Whiteline Sport Steering Rack Bushings KSR202
New rear hub and bearing

I love it. :-D

I haven't done an alignment other than in the initial tweaks at install (tie rods all the way in and then back out 3 full turns) nor have I got out on any good roads but from going down the highway to the gas station a huge impact can be seen.

Coming into corners, the front doesn't lift or dip as much, if at all. It stay relatively flat. Steering response is accurate and firm.

I had a terrible tremor in my wheel before. So much so, that I barely held on to the wheel on long drives as it would vibrate my vision to the point of dizziness.
Gone. Nice and stable.

Road noise is up quite a bit, but then again I have RE92s that are 75% worn and worn unevenly from the now corrected problems.

Problems not before recognized, but now found:
-Torn/tearing right motor mount
-Torn boot on steering rack, leaking p/s fluid
-decent coolant leak from hose (block to manifold next to turbo)
-leaking valve cover gasket (hello $10/qt  )

I'll check in again after an alignment.

Cheers!

awesome!

we definately need to add these to our rallycross car for next season.

if this can help us gain some traction in the corners that would be awesome.

HAHAHA, you def gain traction. So much in fact my unevenly worn front tires cant keep up. You can hear them trying to grip...and failing...
So grippy front tires and a good camber setting will be crucial.

Who knew rotating your tires could have such an effect?

I guess I should know this after 23 years...

New problem, bad axle on front drivers side.

Also the ball joint is popping again, even after re-torquing it.
My impact gun (air) while not that strong, probably still puts down 55-60 lbs of torque on the setting I used, which was 3 out of a possible 4 adjustment.

Is there something I missed?

Also, call me crazy, but would it be entirely stupid to drive on 3 axles until I get this other one replaced? The vibration it causes seems very dangerous.

I've driven my automatic Sedan on three axles for a long distance before.

I was very far from home and the axle exploded. Bearing shot out all over the place. I happened to have a small flat screwdriver so I ripped the axel/stub out of the tranny and that chunk out of the outer joint. I used a small flat screwdriver that I happened to find in the trunk to bang the axle pin out on the sidewalk and reinstalled the stub. I then crawled under the car and reached up on top of the tarnny and unplugged the center differential.
Voila, "instant" RWD legacy :)

If it gets any worse I will rip it out this week. I can 3 wheel it for a while.
I still need to find out why the ball joint keeps coming loose. Maybe some medium strength thread lock would keep it tight.

I bet you need a new hub. This happened in my supra. After rocking back and forth from being loose it will enlarge the hole where it mounts to. Even a new ball joint might not fix it.

I got my alignment this morning.

the specs..

Front left
-1 3/8* camber
2 5/8 caster
0 toe

Front Right
-1 1/4* camber
2 5/8 caster
0 toe

Rear left
-5/8* camber
1/4in* toe

Rear Right
-7/8* camber
1/4in* toe

The right rear toe would not go to zero for what ever reason.
10000000 times better now. The car is reborn. With new brakes and tires I think things willbe fine for some time...or untill I break something else.
