I like it, and was thinking about the same. The only suggestion I can give is to see how much a non-turbo Legacy hood is. That way if you chop it up and it doesn't look that good, or gets screwed up, you still have your original hood. Also, it'd be nice to practice on something other than a turbo hood.

I was thinking about going with a larger hoodscoop... until I saw what the turbulence from the low-profile stocker did to the hood at speed (read substantial flexing in the middle). Since I'm not going top-mount, I'll leave it nice and low, and I might tape up the opening the next time I go to the high-speed oval track.

Eastbaysubaru : that's one of my concerns too... there is 2 avenues i'll analyse this evening

1 - cut the hood and keep some brackets so i will be able to have the scoop mounted flush with the hood, and bolted in place

2 - "buff" the bottom of the scoop so it's flat, that way i only have to "glue" the scoop on the hood with 3M double-face tape. (wich is strong, but not as strong and theives-approved as with the bolts) ... but i have to see if the scoop will offer enought flat surface so it could be a viable solution or not.

don't know yet what to do :| i'll know it better tonight

I'm confused...I thought that the wrx scoop went right onto to our hood...except for interfearing with the windsheild washers...that they either had to be moved or that the scoop had to be cut for them. I was told that a few of the screws or bolts that hold the wrx scoop on to the wrx are not used when installing on a leg turbo...but that it still works. Hmm...whats the deal?
thanks

The WRX scoop does need some additional mounting and cutting. Check out the pics in the fiberglass hood thread.

I couild be very wrong here, but isn't that picture of a GC8 hoodscoop being put on a legacy hood? There is someone on this board, can't remember who at the moment, who claims to have a wrx hoodscoop put on there turbo. they claimed that while not all the attachments fit, that enough do to make it work, and that the only problem is interferance with the windsheild washers. I'm essentially just repeating their claim until i try it myself. Isn't the pic you posted taken by the people working on the fiberglass group buy? Because the plan was a gc8 style scoop I believe...
thanks

Nuwan D wrote- rsstiboy: Yep you are right. that's why i have a wrx hoodscoop mounted over the stock hole in the hood. No cutting required. I also built an aluminum air splitter which might be visible in my pics. I have a temp sensor mounted on my IC, the temps dropped 15 degrees Celcius after putting the wrx scoop on, and it cools down much faster when moving around town after sitting still. Also read belowi attached my hoodscoop on so i can easily switch between stock and wrx scoops. So nothing permanent was done to the hood skin.

the wrx hood scoop uses 3 bolts in the front and 3 in the back, 6 in total as our cars but with a diferent spacing. It also has 4 screw points; 2 on each side. I used the front 3 bolts and 1 screw on each side. This is the most amount of stock attachment points you can use without adding holes to the "visible skin" of the hood. The only mod necessary to the hood was to make two notches to accept the 2 outer bolts on the front side of the scoop. They are spaced closer together than our stock scoop. I also made an aluminum air splitter which the 2 screws go through to clamp the scoop to the hood. Kinda hard to explain this but i'll try and get more pics up sometime.

* the hoodscoop hasn't come off at 180km/h, after that i have no idea .... as of yet:)

also there is a slight gap at the back of the scoop where it rests on the windshield washer nozzles. Still gotta figure out something for that. Of course you can always cut a proper hole in the hood if you want.

Legacyman : ehe ouais j'crois que je connais ton point de vue sur la chose ;)

Czo : yeah you were right, i removed my stock scoop and placed the WRX one over, and it seems to fit quite good on the front.

that's more like i want to do it, i prefer not to cut my hood, so it could be reversible.

thanx all for the infos :)

That pic is from the fiberglass hood thread http://www.bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=12

I believe it's a WRX hoodscoop.

http://gallery.legacycentral.org/v/Memb ... aruNation/

the scoop is definitely different than the wrx one, and looks more awesome.
any help would be grand.

I think the scoop looks great... but it'd look even greater with an intercooler beneath it. :P
