Are the pistons in the turbo motors cast of forged ? All I have to go
on is the FSM and a SAE paper on the motor that states that the
pistons in the turbo model are of the Thermoflow type.

Some of them are, but it depends on model and year. A 220hp BF Legacy
RS-type RA has, a 275hp BG Legacy GT-B has... a 200hp BF Legacy RS does not,
a 250hp BG GT does not.

Whilst they are commonly referred to being a forged type, that is not quite
accurate... certainly they are more rugged than standard.

Most of the turbo pistons are cast, I don't believe thermoflow
pistons will be forged. Only a very few subarus come out with forged
pistons from the factory. You are most likely to find them in a RS RA
spec, but again most of them are not forged.

Even in the new 205Kw twin turbo RSK B4 or GTB's? I am about to buy a
GTB block just for the forged pistons.

Yes, the 205kW (275hp) GT-B has "forged" pistons. As I said, they are
commonly referred to as "forged" but that is not quite accurate.

I will have to search for my source of data on this, so that I could use the
correct terminology... but it escapes me right now.

hepolite, does that ring a bell. A piston that is cast that has a
dense grain?
