ok 3 questions i dont know if they have been answered before so bare with me (and dont make fun of me)
1. i want to stick a boost gauge in my 1992 legacy 2.2 turbo, i've read a lot of guides on installing them but all the ones for Subaru never actually show where the vacuum hose goes to, is there anyone that could take a pic of where they put their vacuum hose teeing off? (if someone could post a link for a good gauge preferably with green or red illumination i'd appreciate it)
2. i've also read a lot about manual boost controllers but again if someone can take a picture of where it is actually located and where the hoses go to it would help me alot. (if someone could post a link for a good controller i would appreciate it too)
3. this is probably a newb question, i thought the hood scoop fed air through to the inter cooler but after lots of reading i realize there isn't one (yet) so what is the hood scoop actually feeding air to? is it cooling the turbo?

I teed my boost gauge off of the vacuum line beneath the line that goes to the master brake cylinder on the intake manifold.
Boost controller teed off of the nipple on the passenger front side of manifold.
the hood scoop feeds air down the chimney towards the turbo, it doesnt really do anything though.

( I tee'd mine off the left Pass side outlet on the manifold. That way I get true manifold pressure)

Your Stock controller is located on the left side above the 90 inlet tube. You would be best to put it there as you unhook the factory one.

If you look underhood, all of the air from the scoop feeds into the turbo chimney. So at low speeds, the heat goes out. At higher speeds, the cold air goes in and down to the turbo.

ok i understand alot more now.
but what is the 90 inlet tube? is it an inlet tube that makes a 90 degree angle? and so should the new boost controler just take its place without the need to modify anything? just unhook the old one and hook up the new one in its place?
also before i actually buy the MBC i want to know if i will be able to get anything out of it. i've read that the 2.2L blocks are strong so keeping that in mind along with having a k&n drop in filter and exhaust that i think is stock (everything up to the muffler is about 2.5 inches outter diameter, i don't know if the cat or muffler are high flow or not, then the muffler has 2 tips sticking out about 1.5 inches outter diameter i beleive) how much boost can safely be put in to this engine? i beleive the stock number is 8.7 psi. is 15psi asking too much of the engine? will 10 psi make a noticeable difference in power? if i want to hit the slightly higher numbers what are the first steps. i can't afford to buy a new cat or headers or install an intercooler and bigger turbo or anything crazy i'm just a kid in search of a little bit more who knows his way around cars fairly well (i'm an apprentice in a local shop, not just some dumb kid that street races)
i've read about lightweight crank pulleys is that for me? you'd think working in a shop i'd have all the knowledge base i would need but they don't know jack s##t about modding cars. so that's why i come to all you guys.
also the car has 160 000km but is in extremely good shape inside and out it had only one owner before me which i believe to have been a granny or something

As far as boosting without an intercooler goes, I've been told 11-12 psi is as high you'd want to go... but I would wait until the intercooler is installed to do that ..... Will you feel the difference ... well each psi makes a difference, it's noticeable.
BTW some people boost up to 15 psi without an intercooler, but some people kill their cars too lol

I would not recommend turning up the boost until you put on an intercooler.
And until you get an intercooler, do not remove the stock underhood chmney baffle.
I would suggest finding an 06 WRX intercooler ( or another subaru one of the same size.)
You will have to do some plumbing modifications to get it to fit.
Then I would remove the underhood baffle to access the air to the intercooler.
At that point, a MBC set to 10-11 would be ok.
A nice bigger downpipe would be the next move.
And until you get an intercooler, do not remove the stock underhood chmney baffle.
