OH Waooow izzzat rite??? My Chiltons Repair Manual didn't say anything about
auto trans only. But look here, sure as shit, my owners manual says "For AWD

OK Bill, I eat shit on this one. But we'll see who the grandma is after I
get my intercooler hooked up, and my boost controller on, and I'm pumping 80

Dont feel so sorry for us poor Americans. We may have to fit intercoolers to
our low boost EJ22T's(my intercooler is off of a FORD!),but we have fun
doing it.Being from this country has many more positive aspects than
negative(aside from our low boost EJ22T's). BillC

Yes but there is much better things you could be up to that trying to
plumb in intercoolers.
Are the American regulations a lot harder on vehicles that you don't
have intercoolers as standard?

Subj: Re: 4WD dyno or drop driveline ?
Our emission standards are extremely harsh for autos.Yes this is one of the
"negatives". I believe our new WRX has three cats, one BEFORE the Turbo.
This is the first turbo we have had from Subaru since 1994(the
aforementioned low boost EJ22T). The EJ22T only had 8.7psi boost stock(160HP
180ft/lbs). I guess Subaru didnt see much need for an intercooler at this
low boost level. These engines respond nicely to a free flowing exhaust, more
boost, and some cooler intake air. The "new" WRX ,just released here this
year does have an intercooler. I believe it has around 13-14psi stock 227HP.

Subj: Re: 4WD dyno or drop driveline ?
No. We (generally) are just lame drivers. Although that might not entirely
apply to folks on this list, it is true. Ever since that gas "crisis" in the
70's it's never been the same.
I nearly got T-boned by a grandmother who couldn't see past the end of her
nose this afternoon. My wife would have died had I let her hit me on the
passenger side, but no oncomming traffic allowed me to swerve into the
oncomming lane. There was going to be 1 less 21 yr old red-head, and 1 less
+80 year old in the world had I not had the fortune I did. I've never wanted
to physically harm an old person until that incident. In America we will
give licences to anyone who wants to drive. Honest to God truth.
All that to say that, generally, Americans prefer big, fat, heavy, gas
guzzling, disconnected-from-the-road-no-suspension-feedback-whatsoever cars.
With enormous, awkward controls that make no sense. Honestly, you don't want
to get me going on this topic. I'm very opinionated about the lack of
quality vechicles in U.S.A. and the over abundance of I.D.I.O.T.S. on the
road. We just want to glide along, completely disconnected from the universe
outside our car at 65 miles/hour. I'm _seriously_ considering moving to
Italy just because of this very fact.

Yes but there is much better things you could be up to that trying to
plumb in intercoolers.
Are the American regulations a lot harder on vehicles that you don't
have intercoolers as standard?

Subj: Re: 4WD dyno or drop driveline ?
Dan-our front bumper & EPA regulations make it hell to add or modify anything on an OBD-2 set-up, but those of us with pre-1995 cars have a little bit easier. I was recently referred to a guy that adds turbos AND intercoolers to early & late 2.2 & 2.5 motors. The availability of approx. 80 hp over my current modifications is definitely intriguing. I don`t think I can obtain approx. 250 hp any other way, so this is a definite maybe. Will advise soon. P.S.-being a `poor` American can be frustrating (performance-wise), but half the fun is beating the Feds @ their own game & keeping a clean engine to boot! --ROD (No. Az.)

Sam & Beth-Know what`s more dangerous than a street gang member with an Uzi? An 85-year-old with a Buick! where I live ther`s a poop-load of them. Some day the individual states will get some non-political balls & keep these road hazards from getting licences. BTW, old people drive in Italy, too.--ROD-AZ.

<begin rant>
Oh man. AZ and Florida. No wonder they put a fence around Disney Land/World!
I'll have to find the website again... There is a site that has a survey of accidents per capita etc. It is statistically proven by government agencies that in America, Drivers (this is per capita mind you) over the age of 65 (?) cause more accidents than drunk drivers. So that means if you line up 100 drunks, and 100 folks randomly aged over 65 (I'm not sure of the age, but I think that is correct), they'll end up doing an equal amount of damage to the known universe when they get behind the wheel.
Pretty scary eh? I'll have to find that report... 'cause everything on the internet is true, right?
) No seriously, think amount of how many of these folks are on the road. Eeek!
Politics is exactly right. No body wants to tell them they have to re-certify their licences, because they want to get re-elected. The + 65 group are very aggressive about making their vote known too. And you know the automotive lobby wants to sell cars to as many people they possibly can - their job is to make sure everyone in America has the right to buy a car from them. Taking licences away would be bad. More drivers = good.
</end rant>

Pretty scary eh? I'll have to find that report... 'cause everything on the internet is true, right?

Politics is exactly right. No body wants to tell them they have to re-certify their licences, because they want to get re-elected. The + 65 group are very aggressive about making their vote known too. And you know the automotive lobby wants to sell cars to as many people they possibly can - their job is to make sure everyone in America has the right to buy a car from them. Taking licences away would be bad. More drivers = good.
</end rant>

I couldn't have put it better without a lot of effort I am sure. All
that is required to get a licence in this country is an address and a
pulse. I almost was killed when a idiot that happened to be on a cell
phone and in a SUV (Stupid Usless Vehicle) decidec it was time to
change lanes without giving any indication of her intentions. The only
thing that saved me from at least a long stay in the hospital was that
I had noticed that the driver was not doing anything at the time
including driving and a car with superior handling and brakes. (I
guess that got me going off subject sorry but I couldn't resist)

MY EJ20 N/A puts out 190-200Hp with exhaust, airbox, larger throttle
body, balanced bottom end. I have a hybrid TD05 for this car, which
is going on soon, along with alcohol and water injection, and Link
computer, it will be seeing reliable 400+ Hp at the wheels. My twin
turbo legacy puts out 300Hp.
What are you guys allowed to do to your cars then, do they still have
to comply with all the strict standards?

Shit, don't do that Italians are crazy drivers, go to germany, on the
autobahns, mmmm nice. Although you will get pissed off realy easily
when you are stomping up the bahn at 260Km/h thinking you are going
so fast, then wooooooosh, what the f*^k was that, oh a lambo.
I have meet a few drivers like this in NZ in the last couple of
weeks, one was very close, almost t-boned a car at 110Km/h that
pulled out right in front of me, lucky for ABS. All countries I feel
just give licences to anyone. I strongly believe all drivers should
have to go on anti-skid courses to learn how to control cars.

autobahns, mmmm nice.

Subj: Re: 4WD dyno or drop driveline ?
I guess we can do quite a few things as long as we comply with the
emmission standards here but doing so is so difficult that it has
dealers, tuners, dynos, and most anything worth having very scarce. They
have left the country and are where you are. I looked for a AWD dyno
and eventually found one but it was 4" to short as an example. My
EJ22t is now about 250+hp or so. I wonder how to find out accuratly
without pulling the engine and installing it in a FWD car (we did that
once).
