Rack+New Brakes/Wheels/Tires

Post by .:Colin:. »

Haven't posted many pics of the turbo so I thought I'd share since I just put the rack on. Its a Thule aero bar setup with a 6-ski carrier and their side arm bike carrier. The nice thing is that I can barely hear it even at freeway speeds :D

Just got the new wheels, tires, and brakes on too:

really? My setup gets pretty noisy with the ski racks over 80. And I have a fairing. But I don't have the fancy aero bars or feet.

That's nice stuff. I was checking out the new low profile yakima ski holders the other day which are pretty cool.

I concur w/ jamal.
When I bought my wagon it had bare Yakima bars (that were locked, and no key), and they were loud. It took me about a month to find a locksmith that could make me a key. Its a lot more quiet w/o.

I think it's because of the way I mounted it. It has a track on top of the bar that a rubber weather strip goes in. I drilled a hole in the weather stripping to allow a t-bolt to go straight through it and into the bottom of the ski rack. Since it is sitting on the rubber, when you tighten it down it creates a seal between the bar and the ski attachment, not allowing air to pass between the bar and ski attachment, thus making less noise (thats my theory anyway).

Jamal, are the bars on your rack round section? Round section is actually pretty horrible aerodynamically and that could be your noise culprit.

No the aero bars are super high because they mount on top of the towers. The regular thule 400xt's which would work on that have it so the smaller bar goes through the tower instead of resting on top. Makes it alot lower profile. I think yakima setups might be even lower.
