NA ENGINE IN AN SS?
I just recently messed up my 3rd motor. And turbo motors are a little hard to come by, and the NA 2.2's are a dime a dozen... Can you use a NA 2.2l engine in an SS? Would I have to swap out the heads, or just the cams if I got another EJ22?
If anyone has any idea, please let me know!
Thanks, Josh

Ya you could use a N/A and just swap over the heads and pistons and crank. What do you keep doing??
Wtf are you doing to blow up the turbo motor. You need to run less then 100psi or she will blow no doubt. Also these engines like oil.

Why can't you rebuild one of the old engines? Sounds like you'd blow an EJ22 real fast.

Yeah,
What did you mess up? I surely hope you aren't just junking those Ej22T cores. As you mentioned, they are hard to come by. If you've got 3 core Ej22T's I imagine you could put together some relatively cheap deal with CCR in Denver to rebuild one of them for you and take the other two cores as partial payment for the build. Or sell them on the open market and use the proceeds to cover the complete cost of a professional rebuild...

Well, it's a long story, but my first 2 motors siezed. they won't turn at all. This third motor just developed a knock... So, I couldn't just swap out the cams and intake manifold? Would I really have to change out the rods and pistons too? I don't see why it would make a difference besides it being weaker and having slightly higher compression...
Thanks, Josh

+1 on not dumping those blocks - I got $700 for a good ej22t shortblock & I paid $300 for the whole car ('91ss running / bad tranny)!
I've seem these blocks bring good $$ on e-bay as well.
Not sure how expensive a NA dual port 2.2 is in your area (they are close to free over here), but if you are running stock boost I'd use the 22t intake manifold (complete with all sensors) & turbo manifold and rig the turbo oil feed/drain on a stock NA 2.2l.
I thought the NA cams were a little more aggressive than turbo cams...?....
High compression+baby boost = surprising power.....

So no one has any more information on this? I think the only thing I would have to do is change out the cams... I'm probably going to pull an NA from the junk yard this weekend. So any more info would be great!
Thanks, Josh

Would it be a good idea to change them anyways? Is it gonna run well with the NA cams and gears?

BTW, since there was some question about them...
My first motor siezed because I had too big of injectors and/or they were leaking and the excess fuel washed the cylinder walls and also got into the oil... It thinned out the oil and I was a dumbass and didn't change the oil or injectors before it was too late.
My second motor siezed cuz I don't know why... It was low on oil, by like a quart or two. It was the jdm 2.0l, so I don't know if it has tighter tollerances or not but the oil pressure light never came on. And it never leaked a drop... I suspect the HGs or the turbo seals, but I have yet to take this one apart...
This third one started to knock on the highway after I was racing a Dodge Shelby Daytona. I had it wrapped out for a while but never went above the red line... It had a coolant leak tho that I was too lazy to fix so that could have caused some problem, tho the engine never overheated and the needle never went past the middle...

all of your problems sound like "I'm too lazy" and thus poor maintenance, I doubt you could sell them with or without the heads seeing as there's no telling what else would turn up wrong (besides the bearings being shot because you wouldn't change the oil)...
Guess some people can afford to be lazy, or there parents can.

Scuzzy, I know what you're saying, but let's not take this thread there. Keep it nice lol.
Createnew,
Like scuzzy said, there's no telling what else what is wrong with your engine. There could be chips and/or cracks in the engine block or cylinder walls, etc. So without knowing what exactly is wrong, we can't give you a good ballpark range to sell it for.

It's been a finacial struggle with these engines going out. I guess I'm just a dumbass but whatever. You live and learn I guess... But, there's no cracks or chips in any of these motors.
