Vortec FPR hmmmm

Post by ggrahnVI@hotmail.com »

Bill,

You might want to watch out with that FPR. You might raise the Fuel
pressure tooooo high. If you look at flow map for a fuel pump it has
a downward slope as pressure increases. So lets say you run a base
pressure of 43.5psi in your rails (that's the standard they measure
injectors and pumps at in an EFI application). You want to run
around the street on 20psi (realistic, I do ;) ). Now with a regular
1:1 FPR, you will end up with 63.5psi in the rail. Not a problem.
Your injectors should still work then. As opposed to 43.5psi + 80
more (4:1). Whoops. Now your fuel pump isn't even flowing. You've
gone past that thresh hold of 80psi (the point were most pumps stop
flowing and are static) on top of that, now Your injectors can't
close because the rail pressure is too high.

You can pick up an Aeromotive, Paxton or SX regulator now for about
180 (the Aeromotive is 140 from Summit Racing). You'll have to do
some customizing, but it doesn't look like you are afraid of that.

Of course, I guess I should have prefaced this by saying I have no
idea what kind of rail pressure you intend to run at idle. This is
just some info....

Later,
