suspension upgrade suggestions?

Post by jdoogs14@hotmail.com »

I have a 92 Legacy sedan, 2WD, and I am looking to upgrade the
suspension with new struts and springs. I was wondering if anyone out
there has done a similar upgrade on their legacy and had any
suggestions. Thanks for any info. - John

Cheap: KYB GR2 and stock springs.
Cheap: KYB GR2 and Whiteline Springs.
Better: KYB AGX and stock springs.
Even Better: KYB AGX and Whiteline Springs.
Best: TEIN, D2 or DMS coilovers. (expensive)

#1 will cost ~$300. #2 about $500. #3 about $400. #4 about $600.

The Whitelines will lower you .5-1", much nicer looking and a bit
stiffer too.

Well, I can be of some help to you. I have a 90 Legacy FWD. Several years
ago there wasn't squat for lowering springs, there still really isn't a lot.
I think two manufact that have springs for the FWD Legacy. I can only
remember one. Whiteline makes a set for the FWD Legacy, you can get them at
Teague's Auto, the link for his site is on my webpage
www.personal.psu.edu/jcc189/subaru/subaru.html under vendors. There may be
others I am not aware of, but the whitelines are reasonable price and are a
good spring. Be cautious about others that are for the AWD cars, the AWD
cars are about 100-150lbs heavier in the rear because of the rear diff and
stuff, so the spring rate is a little stiffer and how the spring was
designed may be a little different, but enough to screw up the handling.

As far as struts go, you have a bit to choose from. I am running KYB GR2's,
they are a decent setup, inexpensive, get the job done, you can get the KYB
AGX's which are adjustable, There are others, prodrive, Sti, more expensive,
probably little harder to get a hold of.

Other thing you could do is go for a coil over setup, spring and damper all
in one. DMS's are probably the nicest or most expensive, tein have some
nice setups. Dave got a set from TRI Tuning, I don't remember the name
though. www.trituning.com I don't know if their site is up-to-date.

hope that helps, any more questions, holler.

Josh

Hmm, are you ready for how many different setups there are in the group? I
am sure you will get a different answer from everyone.
I am running TEIN HR rally suspension my self, works great, I just want
stiffer springs now that I have managed to launch my car in rallies at
140km/h through turns...
