engine oil temps
I finally got the oil temp gauge sending unit hooked up after the wrx gauge cluster install so I was able to see what temps our oil runs.
The outside airtemps were in the low 50s. Running down the highway at 70 to 75 never saw the temps go over 70C/158F. The highest temp I saw was after exiting the highway and sitting in traffic for quite a while waiting on school traffic. Temps rose to 75C/167F and stayed there until I finally got going and then I saw a high of 80C/176F. I looks like our oil temps run pretty good. Have to wait and see what the summer heat does.

I do have the oil cooler that is incorporated into the cooling system, but I thought all the SS's had those. Was it just specific to the 91's?

Sadly, my 93SS has an oil temp sensor in a sandwich adaptor above the filter. When warmed up, the temp stays around 210-225. When really hot outside, it can get to 235.

I am useing synthetic oil which should help in the temp dept. some. The S4 i have really needs an oil cooler on it as in the summer it is common to see 250 degrees and that is with a coolant/oil cooler. Synthetic is a must in it.

I'm building a cooling plate for my car which should help come summertime. There is alot of space for air to avoid going throught the radiator and it will if you let it. I used some pipe insulation to seal off the top 6 inches or so on either side of the radiator and the cooling plate will do the top. Something like this could help your car although the only real cure for track use may be a larger radiator and or an oil cooler.

I used 1/2" adhesive foam weatherstripping to seal the radiator to the radiator support up top on the OBS-T & SS, it works well.
I was going to make a plate but this was easier, cheaper, & lighter.
I have a KOYO radiator & air-air oil cooler on the OBS-T, & stock turbo radiator & water-oil cooler on the SS.

I was considering doing that too, but this would give me something that would be kind of unique and would look quite a bit better. Like I saw somewhere else, it will give me somplace to put some stickers.
Thats gotta be worth some hp, lol
