Oil in #1 cylinder

Post by s'ko »

I have a EJ22t and I am doing a head swap on it.

I had it sitting on a moving dolly with the flywheel side up for about 2 weeks.

I put it on the engine stand and when I took the intake off and I rotated it towards the passenger side and oil poured out of #1 cylinder. There was no hole in the piston. The engine was running when it was pulled out and it sat for about 5 months.

Would resting in that position allow for oil to leak into the cylinder? If so why only on the #1 cylinder?

I was planning to do only a head swap, but should I rebuild the shortblock now?
Do I need to replace the pistons as well?
Anyone recommend a good site for parts?

Thanks for the input

That would be the lowest cylinder in that position. You probably want to at least pull that piston and inspect it. Oil control rings aren't perfect but it wouldn't hurt to check while you have the engine out.

just leave it in the uprught position and all will be fine. the oil will leak into the cyls when its left @ unnatural angles.
