I'm getting the EJ22T engine for my Impreza and I was wondering if I
could use a manual boost controller in place of the stock wastegate
solenoid and pressure sensor?
Cheers,
Kimi

Sure can but to run a higher boost than stock you would have to have a
fuel cut defender as the stock ECU prevents anything over stock boost.
The JC Sports TC2 can be ordered with the fuel cut eliminator and it
really does work on our turbo engines. It seems to give a pretty good
bump about 3500-4000 and flattens out the curve. Al

Um.
The fuel cut doesn't come in till 13PSI. I know this by experience,
as i'm running 11PSI with a weak wastegate that lets it get to
13PSI on the autocross course.
I still keep the other stuff in just to make sure to avoid a CEL (at
least on my car)
The JC TC2 does look nice. I'm also interested in the MSD
DIS-2 ignition, and i think it removes the rev limit.
At this point, why not just get a TEC-II to do everything!

It doesn't do that, but it certainly does improve torque, top-end
power, and fuel consumption. I love mine.
(although a TEC-II sure does look nice)

Hi-another happy Dis-2 customer (me); it`s pricey but well worth it. The difference in mpg= +2-3; pulls like a banshee above 4000 rpm & added 15 mph to my top end w/no other changes. Good luck-ROD (No. Az.)

Kimi, If you don't have the wastegate solenoid and pressure
solenoid they can be replaced with a risistor to prevent a CEL. I will
check mine and give you the values for the risistors. with a
intercooler you can probably run over 13lbs boost.

I was wondering about this, does simply replacing these two items with a
resister keep the ECU happy? Doesn't the ECU use these values for anything
other than the fuel cut?

Because you can get an Autronic for a little less, it'll bolt right in, and
it tunes itself!!

The ECU uses the wastegate solenoid to control the wastegate accuator
and the pressure sources solenoid switches the pressure sensor from
atmosphere to boost pressure. Most of this is not needed with boost
controllers but should probably should follow the specific
instructions but if you do run across a relay or solenoid anywhere
that is not needed or available a 100-120 ohm risistor will usually
work well just to keep the ECU happy with no CELs.
