Synthetic tranny oil : recommends?
I would not recommend it. I changed my 5-speed transmission over to AMSOIL
gear lubricant about five years ago, and have not been impressed. It is
true the transmission was easier to shift, and the oil did not get as thick
as standard gear oil on those -20 degree mornings in Idaho. But I also
began to experience gear clash since the oil was too light for proper
synchronizer operation, particularly after long, high-speed runs on the
Interstates. I ended up adding a can of viscosity index improver, like
Motor Honey or STP, to increase the viscosity of the lubricant. That did
help with gear clash, but I suspect my synchos wore at a faster rate than
otherwise.
In any case, before switching to a synthetic, I would look for independent
verfication of the manufacturers claims. AMSOIL reps claim their product
has been tested, but on closer inspection it appears they were tested at
in-house laboratories.

Synthetic tranny oil : recommends?
I would have to agree on some of the synthetics that have a lower
viscosity than is recommended I tried ATF and a few other things but
found that BG Syncro Shift works very well. I used it in a ver 1
tranny and now have it in a ver 2. A friend that has a problem with
depressing the clutch completly because of an injury in a accident was
going through syncros and transmissions on a regular basis until he
found this and recommended it to me. A bit pricy though about $100.00
a fill.
