To replace or not to replace

Post by 94TurboWagon »

Can my O2 sensor still be bad even without a CEL. I have noticed a drecrease in fuel mileage, though some say that with the oxygenated gas used in the winter months, you get worse gas mileage. Also, I get strong smelling exhaust fumes thru my heat vents especially at idle. Any idea what it could be.

Your oxygen sensor can be bad -- or just not very good -- without tripping the check engine light.

In many places winter fuel does have less energy in it than summer fuel.

You shouldn't be smelling exhaust through the heat vents at all! That's actually kind of dangerous because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Maybe you have a leak in your exhaust manifold? You didn't fill out your location in your profile, but if you're in a place where they use salt on the roads that can be hard on the exhaust.
