have two subarus that need tierods/steering rack replacment...and i realize that wrecking yards or ebay is going to my friend on this, but i want to make sure i have the right rack before spending the money

can i use this rack?..

94 impreza FWD wagon

it seems fairly obvious that it WILL fit my other car

93 legacy AWD wagon.....so i will probably buy it anyways

i just want to make sure before spending the money.....i asked the seller and he said his info said it WOULD NOT FIT in the the 94 impreza...but i dont see how it couldnt if it fits a 93 and a 95...only difference i can think of would be that the final drive ratio is different and thats why his info says they are different.....(besides maybe the different looking outter tierods)......actually im hoping that the final ratio IS different , becasue my legacy has SIGNIFICANTLY tighter steering than the impreza (no, not just worn parts), and i figure that if they all fit together then why not go for the tightest....

i also notice a difference about the two different vehicles steering pumps...the impreza has a single wire going to the pump housing, but the legacy doesnt......what is that wire for?..is there a wire at the steering rack?....did subaru experiment with the variable assist power steering in ONLY FWD 94 imprezas? (before some of the newer ones)


really i just want my tighter steering and i want to know if a 93-94 legacy rack will fit into a 94 impreza .........OR if anyone can point me to a chart of what model/years came with what final drive ratios ......since the majority of info on this site points to that only a WRX or STI rack wont fit, unless i use a different steering column, i figure that just about any other rack will work (though i should stay away from the newest of stuff, and variable assist racks)..

Yes...the BC/BJ Legacy and GC/GF Impreza steering racks are physically the same.
