Boyd Coddington dead @ 63

Post by PhyrraM »

No cause released yet. Looks like he was in and out of the hospital a bit in the last few weeks.

I watched more than a few episodes of American Hot Rod.

I like what the shop made, but it made him look like a total ass. He pushed people away and within a season and a half, most of the people had left, and for good reason.

He made a lot of really cool cars and I think his name still holds prestige. It's a shame to lose him.

It's unfortunate, but I honestly didn't like his cars or the person that his show made him out to be.

His cars and his legacy started long before the show.

The show was only possible because of all the stuff that came before. Trust me when I say that his best work came long before there was American Hotrod, American Chopper or even Junkyard Wars. Much of his early stuff came even before The Discovery Channel it self. Check out the original AlumaCoupe.

The show did portray him as one arrogant SOB. Maybe he was really that way. I dunno.

Only 63? I thought he was much older...Enjoyed the show. Everything you're not supposed to do to people that work for you, he did. That was part of the attraction, each weeks trainwreak playing itself out. The show will be missed.

R.I.P. Boyd... He might have been an ass, but he had a lot of great automotive vision.

Note:
Chip Foose use to work for him & left to start his own shop because they could not see eye to eye on many things. They never got along after Chip left the Coddington shop.

Yeah, but I bet he has the utmost respect for him. It's too bad to see guys like this go. He might have seemed like an ass, but was most likely just a hardass. R.I.P

I read an article today that said Foose and Coddington were closer in the last few years.

I'm certain the show was more dramatic than it normally was in the shop, and that they made Boyd look more draconian than he was.

He made some cool stuff, but he also made a lot of enemies and stepped on a lot of toes. Few people get fame without doing those things.

Wow I can't believe it. I used to watch the show often. Then I guess I got bored of it. R.I.P Boyd.
