L series to Turbo brake master cylinder

Post by stipro »

I have a 90 L AWD Auto with abs. Its getting a complete turbo 5 speed swap and was wondering if I should swap over the brake master cylinder and booster from the turbo car?. Or, are they the same? I would presume not.

They're the same.

Isn't the L a 1" MC and the turbo is 17/16?

Every turbo master cylinder that i have seen has been 1 1/16"(or 17/16" as jamal put it)

if your car doesn't have turbo brake on it then the brakes will activate WAY TOO SOON with the turbo master cylinder. (afaik)

All ABS models have 17/16" master cylinders. Non-ABS models have 1" master cylinders. It doesn't matter whether it's a turbo model or not (except that all turbo models have ABS).

You won't really have issues with brakes activating sooner or later -- rather, the differences would be how long the pedal stroke is and how much effort it takes to press the pedal.
