FUEL PUMP replacement, remove tank? 1991 SS
Is this the right area to post about doing a fuel pump replacement?
I know some cars have an access port in the passenger compartment, but I haven't seen anything about it for our subies.
I have a 91 SS and I want to put Walbro 255 in it.

Fold down the right rear seat back. Then remove the screws holding the trunk carpet to the back of the seat. Peel the carpet back and you'll see the little bump that covers the fuel pump access hole.

Its easy. I did this yesterday in the cold weather outside at an ice racing event with minimal tools. Fold down rear sear, unscrew the 4 phillips screws, take off plate, and there are like 10 - 8mm bolts. Take out those then the electrical connecter and the 3 hoses and its out. BTW, the hoses are a PITA to get off sometimes.

If you don't have a fold down rear seat.....changing the pump is a bit more of a pain.

Yeah. I just assumed Boostedballs did because he has a turbo.
With non-folding seats you just have to remove the seats, though, right? That's like five 12mm-head bolts or something, isn't it?

That was easy! especially compared to GM products!
The hard part was the fact that the ebay fuel pump is no good! I can hear it inside my house from the driveway! And of course the engine caughs when I give it gas!
this ebay newbie better give me my money back. he lives 3 hours from me...

You have to remove the seats, and the cardboard backing. You may also have to remove the metal bar that goes across the opening.vrg3 wrote:Yeah. I just assumed Boostedballs did because he has a turbo.

With mine, I couldn't do that because I have my amps mounted on that bar and another one I added. So I had to wiggle myself in there with very limited room to work.

so its about time for me to get a walbro
does the pump plug in to the stock connector?
i know you can get a tank fit kit for the wrx/sti is there any point in getting it or will it go in perfectly on its own?
would you guys recommend replacing any gaskets while im in there?
oh and how loud is it, i've heard its decently loud and i hate the fact that with most gm's you can hear the fuel pump over the engine's noise.
thanks!

Get the kit. You need it because the rubber bushing to hold the pump is slightly different. The electrical connector is different. The kit makes it plug & play.
It's not that loud, that you'll notice it.
