i have an auto gauge electrical oil temp gauge
jw in the picture is this the oil temp sensor ? if not where is the sensor ?
can that sensor be taken out and replaced with the gauge sensor or do i need to leave the standard sensor there for the ECU?

That's not an oil temp sensor, it's an oil pressure sensor.
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe that sensor is indeed tied into your ECU, which will illuminate the light on your dash should your oil pressure drop to an unsafe level.
So if you were to replace this sensor with something else, like a pipe to send to a manual oil pressure gauge, or an oil temp sensor as you mentioned, you'll have to deal with the oil light on your dash.

There is no OEM temperature sensor.
That pictured device is indeed a pressure switch. It is connected to the warning light on the dash and nothing else. If you remove it the only effect will be that the warning light will no longer work.
Now, here's a trick. That pressure sender has 1/8" BSPT threads. It is threaded into a little adapter that is threaded into the engine block. Towards the rear of the engine there is another port on the block with the exact same threads as this front one. In stock form it's filled with a plug with an allen head.
If you can get your hands on another one of these adapters from perhaps a blown EJ engine, you can install it in the place of the rear plug and thread in either a sender with 1/8" BSPT threads or an adapter. You may even have success carefully retapping the 1/8" BSPT threads to 1/8" NPT if you have to.
Another option for an oil temperature sender is to drill and tap the oil drain plug. I believe that is where new Subarus' dealer-installed oil temperature gauge's sender is.
