replacing a 4 eat

replacing a 4 eat
Well i just got done replacing my 4 eat with a rebuilt one and that was a pain in the ass. For the most part the transmission was easy getting out but those torque converter bolts sucked bad, since it took a offset 12mm to get them out and a half turn at a time. Well now i know what it takes to do a 4 eat. I just thought i would give my support for those that had or have to pull the 4eat. Once you have the torque converter bolts, its a piece of cake. What i did to remove them is have my brother hold the wrench and i put pressure on the crank pulley until they broke loose the my brother turned them as best as he could with the wrench until he could get them out with his fingers. It didn't take that long but it seemed like forever. Well good luck for those who have to do this task, and my respect goes to those that has done it.

ratcheting wrenches are SOOOO helpful and make removing those torque converter bolts much easier.

I tryed using a fixed racheting wrench but i just couldn't get the right angle. I could of if i would of bought a flex head racheting wrench, Oh well i learned alot. Next time i will have to buy that tool and make it easier.

Another option is to run a long 3/8" socket extension across the top of the engine, then stick a 12mm socket on when you get the end near the bolt.
I think I pulled the alternator off to make room when I did this on my Legacy???
