Bought a 97 LGT last night!

Post by Benfolio »

Hey everyone, new to here and to Subaru. Got sick of getting stuck in the snow here in WI with my Crown Vic and I wanted something a little better on gas as well.

So what else is AWD, comes with a manual trans, and isn't a truck (and I can afford)?

Image

That's what I was thinking! Been looking for a LGT for awhile, wanted a wagon, but settled for this little gem because even though the miles are high, the price is right.

Picked it up last night, and took it to work to look it over today.
Had to get a shot of my two cars together of course:

It's clean but has it's issues. Knock sensor is throwing CELs, needs a tuneup, balljoints are bad, paint is so-so (right front door is junk, check broke and tweaked the door), valve cover gaskets leak, but no headgasket leaks!!! Gave her a good once-over and changed the fluids tonight:

So this looks like a great place to hang out and learn some stuff!
Believe me, I'm gonna have some questions :)

Looks awesome! Once you fix the knock sensor replacing it or checking the wire and connector, do the tune up and balljoints will be like new! Even if some oil leaks are there and the door is tweaked ;)

the head gaskets will leak internally on those, so do a gas test on the coolant. DOHC, right?
Good judgment comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgment.

I doubt the Police Interceptor is active duty, most cops don't use their personal cars on the job, and vice versa... lots of people drive them simply because they're uber cool (and good luck finding another car with a standard limited slip rear differential).

The new car looks pretty nice... make sure and let us know if it's faster than the Police Interceptor :D Some of us have.... eerr.... useful.... use...... for such information :smt051

05 Outback 2.5XT 5spd -- Now the wife can have her SUV and get in on the turbo Legacy goodness at the same time.

well i know that in Hawaii and MT cop cars are the cop's cars
for highway patrol and for most of the city police.

they only go like 140. that's really not that fast when you think about it.
