WANTED - set of JDM ej20h, ej20k, or ej20r heads

Post by manxaru »

READY TO PAY CASH RIGHT NOW TO A WILLING SELLER.

I'm looking for a complete set of Phase 1 JDM heads, preferably complete with cams, springs, valves, covers etc.

First choice would be a set of twin turbo heads or WRX heads with the small clover leaf style combustion chamber. Not looking for early HLA rocker heads w/large combustion chamber, already have a set of those.

Let me if you have a set of JDM ej20h, ej20k, or ej20r, whole or in pieces, but prefer excellent usable condition.

Thanks!

I have a complete 20g setup but I need to check the chambers to see if they are the open style or not.

Hey Blackbart, thanks for the message, I really appreciate it!

Since I originally wrote the message I have ruled out the early EJ20G heads due to the large (57cc) combustion chamber.

But thanks for the pics, I appreciate it.

'97 to '99 EJ25 DOHC heads are a good option, 46cc chambers and more quench area than the EJ20Gs (not sure about the Ks).

Left to right: EJ22T, EJ20G, EJ25 Phase 1

Note: the '96 EJ25 DOHC heads have the large chamber (57cc) and can be identified by this valve cover.

'97+ Phase 1 valve covers look like this.

Hey thanks for the post, that's good info! I looked into the USDM heads quite a bit and I think that would be my back up option, if I couldn't get a decent set of 2.0's. It's hard to sort out everything you read but my impression was that the usdm 2.5 are basically the same casting as the late model JDM ej20's. Possible downside to the usdm's is slightly smaller ports, which could be opened up/polished, etc, and less aggressive cams. Possible upsides - the combustion chamber (diameter) is a better match for my ej257 bore size, + the usdm heads are cheap and available. I've been told the "clover" combustion chamber size (47cc) is the same on ej25, ej20h and ej20k heads.

I looked at the cam spec's and decided to hold out for the 2.0 JDM's based on the better cam's.

I've I been "mislead" anywhere along the way, please let me know.

Thanks again for the pics. I heard there was a difference on the 96 to 97-99 heads and now I know how to ID!

About the cams, I don’t have my EJ22T stroker running yet so this info is not personally confirmed, but I have read several accounts that indicate the that USDM EJ25 DOHC cams are excellent for a low to mid RPM power band (this is my goal, daily driven street car). If you are looking for max power on the top end the turbo cams may be a better choice.

The ports on my EJ25 heads look to be the same size as the EJ20G (the other JDM 2.0s may be different), The EJ25 casting also seems to be smoother in the port with a better knife edge between the ports.

Another downside to the EJ25s is that you have to machine them for that turbo oil and water.

He posted a thread about them in the Parts Shed. Find it and try replying to it to see if he responds.
