2008 sti brake coolers

Post by NICO »

seen them on the 2008 and had to do it on my little impreza. slice and dice and got them in. also to keep them in, i did something so amazing with brake clips that for some reason i order way to many lol, but it worked out.

i think its better for letting all the trapped air in the bumper to get out.

Ice cycles?

Icicles kids...

I wonder how functional those are compared to the "real" setup on the 08, which should have ducting.

Looks cool.

I've heard that it's to deflect air around the wheel well for better aero.

But well I might be talking out of my ass. Either way I don't see how it would cool the brakes. For that you need a duct that goes to the inside of the rotor.

you guys got a good point, i wonder if there is a duct? but i cant tell on the sti.

takeing a shot here, but i think when the air gets sucked in the front it has no where to go. so these vents rush air out, that its rush the hot air off the breaks rim front section.

does it make sense? or i have no clue lol.

i should have taken a better pick, when looking at it from the other angle, you can see the inlets of the front.

what do you guys think of the colour i pianted them? i was thinking white? also piant the hood grills white also?

go for it?

Nico try that V2 scoop on a SS hood, I think it may fit.

I have a couple loose SS scoops that I wanted to try on my V2 hood but I can't find them to test fit.

If it works it would be a cheap OEM BIG scoop that would work for TMIC guys.

The hood vents need to be white. The brake ducts would be more subtle in white, but look kinda racy in black.

I think they're for air management as you think, not brake cooling. It may reduce drag to have the air pass through the front and be pulled out the side by what is likely a low-pressure zone rather than turbulent air building up and spilling along the sides, but this is a guess from a casual untrained aerodynamicist. The Porsche 959 did a similar thing to reduce lift and I'm using a similar idea on the Cessna-car where I'll have the air that passes through the radiator and A/C condenser go through ducting and out vents in the bodywork in front of the doors. That also allows the rest of the engine compartment to be completely enclosed for reduced drag.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

I've a very active member on NASIOC since Sept '01, RS25 since Dec '01, (i-club Nov '02, pretty much when the split), blah blah... I just go by moss everywhere else but i figured it would be time for a change of names and go with something that fits better for me.

I saw the vents on the 08 STi and immediately tried ordering them from Japan - then I wrecked my Impreza :(
