Fuel Injectors

Post by mwebb@A-T-M.com »

I think I have a fouled #3 injector. This is the second time for the
#3. Is this a problem on 90 Legacy's?
What's the best fuel injector cleaner to use? Anyone heard of the
cleaner fouling the injectors?
What's the best way to get injectors out? If I get them out what is
the best way to clean them? Last but not least, If I need to replace
what is the stock size for this car? Can they be up sized if they
need to be replaced. Is this a simple swap.

Thanks in advance,
MDWebb

Fuel Injectors

Post by yahoo@mintzer.com »

I just checked my fuel injectors on my 90 Legacy by pulling off the
electrical connector while the engine was running. On two of the
cylinders the engine noticeably slowed down, one got a little slower
and then picked up and one didn't change at all. I listened to the
injectors and I could here all of them "click" when they were plugged
in and stop clicking when I pulled the connector. I pulled
the "worst" injector and noticed one of the o-rings was torn and the
hold down cap was cracked.

I was wondering what recommendations for injectors people had. Should
I get new ones from the local Subaru dealer ($130), go to BAP and get
re-built ones ($60+give them my old ones), get some re-built/new ones
on-line (best I found was $40 for re-built so far), or try to re-
build them my self? Any recommendations where to get injectors on-
line?

Thanks.

Fuel Injectors

I just emailed you this info too

Ya know, you just hit up the alley I was goin with the injectors. My 90
Legacy has 150k miles on it. I was told a while ago, that the injectors
only last about 100k. Plus the fact my car has sit for extended periods
of time while I was at school and such, it's worse for the seals. I
want to send my injectors off to get them rebuilt. A friend of mine
told me about a place online. www.injector.com They rebuild your
current injectors, blue print the flow before, and after I believe.
Here is an excerpt from Tim, the guy who owns it I believe.

Josh,
Fuel injection cleaner does work but. It really cleans the intake ports
and intake valves not the injectors. Thats why you can notice a change
in performance. You can not clean injectors with a small ratio of
cleaner to gas. The way we clean injectors is to attack the injector tip

that really needs the cleaning and flow it as well. We will be on
vacation the week of the 17th of July. But other than that just ship the

injectors in a box and the injectors should be protected in the box so
they don't get damaged with a note. In the note please put who there
from, what there from, and a daytime phone number were we can call you
for a M/C, Visa number.
