more fuel vs. water injection
hypothetical scenario:
i want to increase the boost to the max efficiency of the stock turbo in combination with a TMIC and a larger turbo back exhaust.
of course keeping everything stock would make detonation rear its ugly head.
potential solutions:
water injection or more fuel?
i am leaning towards water injection as that would be the most simple and inexpensive route. plus i would have really clean engine internals.
please poke my idea full of holes.

i need to re-read a lot of threads.vrg3 wrote:Stopping detonation is part of the problem, but you still need something to burn with the extra air. I've never seen water burn.
i cant remember what the max boost is that the stock injectors can handle when maxed out and the fuel cut is removed.
i would like to make as much power as possible while still retaining stock equipment with the few mods i listed in the first post.

I'm pretty sure it's around 15PSI.greg donovan wrote: i cant remember what the max boost is that the stock injectors can handle when maxed out and the fuel cut is removed.

+1 on water not burning.
I assume (hope) by water injection the poster meant a water/meth mix.
Realize Max boost that can be fueled for on 1 turbo will not be the same if the turbo is upgraded.
? CFM for a VF11@ 1 bar (14.5psi) I'd estimate about 300ish, but a TD05-16G pushes from 505-550CFM @ 1 bar depending on the trim (small 16G, standard 16G, big 16G, Evo 16G...).
The JDM WRX 90* inlet TD05-16G is supposed to pump out 520CFM.
So @ the same boost level alot more air is being moved by the 16G than the stock turbo.

nope just water.
ok. like said poke holes.
swapped turbo is not in the cards.
i think i was unclear.
at 15 psi on the stock turbo i would not need to upgrade the stock injectors just increase the flow a bit?
i see that it really isnt a either or thing with the water injection.
i need the water to help control detonation and keep things cool and more fuel to make a better boom in the combustion chamber.
how much more fuel at 15 psi?

could i then get away with running 87 octane and methanol? i would imagine that i would have to have the meth running all the time rather than only on boost. which would mean i would burn through enough meth to offset the savings of using 87.555BCTurbo wrote:If you use a water/methanol mixture, you can use the methanol as a fuel as well...a very high octane fuel

i use perriens water meth system.
i know when it kicks in i see my air fule guage jump about two afr points higher. but i asked mike at innovative tuning if it was like adding a point of fule its not the same thing. also it kicks back my egt a slight bit nothing crazy.
in the summer it kept my motor nice and cool in the dead of heat, and when the motor blow up all the parts where so clean.
greg donovan: i also just got a j&s knock system! that box works amazing if your trying to control knock.
and its a small unit fits perfect in the glove box for hide away from police

i would rather set this stuff up first then when it is time to upgrade the turbo (if i even wanted to) i would have everything needed allready.Imprezive wrote:nice mounting system...
meth injection for sure. But you should just buy a new turbo honestly.
besides, is there even a turbo out there worth buying for under 300 bucks?
i only want a little more power. this car sees no track use. i just want to have a similar level in power as a stock 02 and up wrx.
these measure are more fore reliabilty rather than power, hence my desire to only use water and then back off the boost in the winter.
i plan on adding a boost gauge and the TMIC this srping and a axelback STi exhaust around the same time.
next i want to get a widband O2 sensor/gauge, an egt gauge, a water injection system and then a MBC.
after all that is done then i want to turn the boost to near the max efficiency of the stock turbo and fuel system after adding a FCD.
i dont want big power. i fail to see the point in that for a daily driven car. but i do want to have at least the same power as the new camry next door. and i dont want the engine to go boom! in a bad way in the process.
that being said if i there is an affordable turbo out there that will give me what i want without making out its efficiency like i would with the stock turbo then i would be all for it.
