...I found this.

Ummmm...what is it?

I'm referring to the plastic tank with the three hoses running up to it (if you didn't already pick up on that).

crack open one of those hoses, and smell it. see if that tells you. if it was an sti I would say it's the I/C sprayer reservoir, but since it isn't I have no clue. :?

Wow, been wondering where that was. I've been out of blinker fluid for years.

It's part of the evaporation control system. Smog, basically.

Actually, it's kind of a big deal -- the blinker fluid actually serves a dual purpose on our cars. The blinker fluid pump has two channels in it, so it also circulates the fluid through the muffler bearings. On our car they're not sealed and need continuous fluid flow (and apparently blinker fluid's good enough) through them.

It's a commonly neglected maintenance task, but you'll pay. You definitely don't want to have to replace those bearings -- you have to use a left-handed monkeywrench and it's a pain. For a little extra insurance, use synthetic blinker fluid and then even if it runs out you'll still be okay for a short while.

Ranks right up there with changing the steering wheel gasket and tensioning the fenders.

Question, what is the joke with the muffler bearings?? Was there a invention where someone made bearings for mufflers because they thought it would be faster. I need to know why I should laugh at muffler bearings LOL.

The joke is just that there is no such thing. So it sounds like you're talking about a car part but it's really complete nonsense.

It's not actually a very clever joke, but it lets gearheads like us think we're witty. :)

Because they don't exist lol. And when new people come on the board and see this they go "wait what?!" and then go to an auto parts store and ask for blinker fluid and new muffler bearings lol.

We can still hope he goes in looking for left-handed monkeywrenches and steering wheel gaskets and fender tensioners.

Actually because of the viscosity of blinker fluid, it does not penetrate into the bulb, therefore there's nothing to worry about.

All you have to do is remove your blinker bulbs, put a funnel into the hole and fill 'er up!! Just remember to put the bulb back in!!
