Hi Folks,
Just bought a 90 Legacy SW FWD (L), low mileage and in great shape but
for one issue with the tranny... wanted to get the 5spd AWD, but
couldn't find one in my budget.;*(
It's an automatic and either shifts slowly or slips between 1-N-R and
the opposite order. I understand that the tranny is computer controlled
so there are no simple adjustments that a tranny shop can make... at
least that's what they say. All the other gears are fine, and we're
quite pleased with the car!
I've heard that the auto tranny is kind of strange shifting on the
early versions, but I was wondering if anyone out there had any similar
experiences? Any advice is appreciated.
I'd also like to connect up with any local owners here in Vancouver BC,
in case anyone has any shops that are good for dealing with Subarus.
Thanks,
TJ

Look around the battery down around the sub frame, see if there is a transmission filter there? The 90's did not have tranny filters, and subaru added an external one. Also to clarify, it only does it when you're shifting from reverse to 1st? or drive? All I can suggest is change the transmission fluid, or probably better, get one of those power tranny flushes.
