I straight-piped my Mercedes
How much more fun could one have with a $100 car, a welder, and $10 worth of exhaust pipe?

Yes indeed...the car runs absolutely amazing...with almost 304k miles.ericem wrote:
Well on the bright side it seems to run right? Cooking grease should work to power up that car when oil is even more expensive then now to.
I was running it on B20 for a while, and it ran so nice...and smelled like french fries...but since B20 is like $4.20 a gallon now...no dice!
The car doesn't really need to be fast, it is solely my work-commuter car.
However...
I am toying with the idea of propane injection right now

Why would I blow up an engine that costs $5000 to rebuild, runs perfectly, and gets better mileage than my Legacy?SubaruNation wrote:blow it up! lol i want to see that video! ha ha

It's a Mercedes diesel - HOW would you blow it up?

Both pretty common practices...
If you knew much about diesels, you would know that propane injection is a way to make a ton of power...

Well...it should be alright as long as I don't use dryer-vent hose on my turbo like someone I know...
Considering I used to work with diesel stuff for a living...I might actually know what I am doing?!?! Maybe?!?

If I could afford to buy my delivery Sprinter van from my dealership, I would.
I don't even know what I'd do with it, because I have absolutely no use for it.
But I still want it anyway.
I cleaned a Nissan Titan's clock last week in it. I mean... cleaned his clock. He was so mad, he did a ricer fly-by on me.
Nick, do I have the same engine you do? I've chatted with an electrician who's a big Merc and Sprinter fan, and he said the 2.7 5cyl is a 30-year-old engine that's just been continually updated.
Car sounds sweet by the way

Thanks Mike

No, your motor is vastly more awesome than mine. And it is by no means a 30 year old design...it is very loosely based upon a design that is maybe 20 years old.
Mine is an all cast-iron 3 liter 5 banger, with mechanical injection and an AirResearch t3 .48 A/R. Yours is the 2.7 liter, aluminum head 5 banger, with common rail fuel injection, and variable vane turbo, and other neat shit like that. I have heard rumors that your motor is based upon the OM601/2/3/6 series engines, which first came out somewhere around 85. The fact that your motor has the CDI setup is the coolest part, because the fuel metering is so precise, along with the variable vane turbo. I haven't driven an US spec Sprinter, so I can't really speak, but the one I drove in New Zealand had some major balls!

They're awesome - not the acceleration of an E150 V8, but literally double or better gas mileage. 26 from a tall, bug van? Yeah, that's better than the wagon was getting with the 8.0:1 engine.

Well, I figured yours wasn't CDI
. And I didn't know I had a variable-vane turbo. But I wasn't sure if maybe the shortblocks were essentially the same, and maybe just the extremities had been updated over the years.
Having driven E-series Ford vans myself, I think that if they had transmissions worth a shit, they'd be pretty fast. I don't know if it's in the torque convertor or what, but Ford automatics put virtually no initial torque down when you step on the gas from a standstill.
The best I've seen out of my Sprinter is 22mpg. Not sure if that's because I drive like an asshole or because mine's the biggest there is (long and tall body, and 1-ton 3500).
Also, it's speed-limited to 83mph

It might be 84 mph, which is 140 kph. The Fords are limited to 90. The Sprinter these British contractors that worked with us had got about 26mpg, but it was the shorter one. Also had some kind of cool utility boxes built into the outsides that I haven't seen on any others. Don't know if they drove all that slow, though as the lead guy had a supercharged Harley-Davidson F150 chipped for 500hp.

Here is a Top Gear video that changed my views on both vans and women racers. Really, it is a very, very good video.
