FS: 91 Legacy SS in Missouri $1200 [PRICE DROP]

Post by boro »

It really pains me to do this, because I love this car but the time has come to pass it along to some one who can and will take better care of her. She's been a valiant solider for 2 years now but I am afraid I am abusing her trust. So here it goes:

91 Legacy SS
223,xxx miles, stock motor with basic bolt ons.
Pear white with some hail damage and a ghetto home made hood scoop to solve a heat soak issue.

Over all the car isn't that bad, I have seen way worse. The paint (besides the hail dings) is still in great condition except the spoiler- as usual -and one or two recently developing rust spots which are minor and really just serve as an eye sore and motivation to get shit done.

The interior has the usual wear n tear of a 17 year old car, but its too is in rather good shape. Grey interior, cloth.
No overly large stains. The only tear in the fabric is the drivers side bolster closest to the door.
It has some rubber heavy duty floor mats which I just hose off in the shower every now and then. Dash is not cracked.
A/C is icy cold R12. Heat works great. Rear defroster is slow, but works.
Power windows, with auto up (one of my FAVORITE things about this car) power locks, power mirrors, power sunroof/moon roof (tinted) with sliding cover.

Goods

Tinted windows 35%
Gunmetal WRX double 5 spokes
Blitz SSQ BOV recirculated
Saab 900S TMIC
HKS 3" down pipe
Stock exhaust (WRX??)
stock vf11. No shaft play, no leaking oil.
NGK pfr 6b9 plugs gapped to .8mm or .032"
03 WRX struts which are getting soft
03 WRX clutch kit
Sti shifter linkage and bushing
Whiteline RCA Kit
-Extended ball joints
-Tie rods
Whiteline Sport steering rack busings
Ebay oil catch can
Newer intake manifold gaskets
Newer coolant temp sensor
New passenger side front axle
Oil changed every 5000 miles with AmsOil 15w40 European Formula and filter
Redline 75W90 synthetic gear oil in front diff and tranney, what a difference that made!!!
New drivers rear hub and wheel bearing. Replaced less than 3k miles ago.

The Bad
-Crappy hardware store MBC. Replace that. $50 or less for a good MBC.

-Front hub/knuckles may need to be replaced as the ball joints work them selves loose now and again. Hitting the pinch bolt with an impact seems to keep them in place for a month or more. $15 a corner from the junk yard.

-PCV lines re routed with the clear catch can hose because all the stock hoses had dry rotted away but the connections could use some TLC. A few fittings from carquest to make it pretty $10- 20

Also the coolant line that loops from the manifold to the block was broken and replaced with this same clear hose as a temporary fix...it's beyond its temporary window and needs a rubber hose as it leaks. This means keep an eye on the coolant until the hose is replaced. I fill the upper tank with coolant once a week or so.
$5 hose?

-Leaks a bit of oil onto the up pipe. Not enough to notice on the dip stick but enough to make some smoke in the right weather conditions. Makes passers by stare.
Valve cover gaskets $30

-It has terrible rear tires due to an alignment problem. The shop couldn't get the rear passenger wheel to 0 (zero) toe and it is toed in 1/4*, adversely the drivers rear is 1/4* toe out to match it. It makes for some vibration and eats rear tires. Most likely needs all the rear bushings replaced to solve.
I think a motor mount (or both) is torn so...
Master Bushing set from RalliSpec $400-ish, but what a kit!!!

-Rubber intake elbow @ turbo is getting old. Replace it.
$Blakbart :-D

-Sunroof has a nice crack down the middle of it but the glass is together and doesn't leak. The SEAL DOES leak during heavy rain on the passenger side.

-No trunk release handle (broken when I bought it)

-CarX metallic brakes are junk after only two years. They stop the car but I give myself extra room and I wouldn't run any events with them.
$250 for some good stuff from anywhere!

-WRX struts are old news. Get something better.
free from other wrx's, lol

-I'd pick up a complete stock intake system. It didn't have one when I bought it and I had to make due with piping. I have most of the stock system and of course it will be in there but some things are ethnically modified to say the least.

-The motor is old. It starts instanly, it runs, it boosts 10-12psi. It has its days where it pulls like a Vette and days where it crawls like a Geo Metro. All at a solid 22 mpg.
Well worth the cost of any swap!

Would you be willing to bring it to Chicago?

If so, I'm pretty interested.

I could probably meet you half way. If not, I have been wanting to go to Chicago... I'll discuss with my cohorts.

Sure, I'll throw it on the trailer if you pay for the diesel. When are we talking?

Well, don't hold the car for me as of yet. Things on the home front are sensitive with my current car situation, but I'll keep you posted.

Not holding it, not really pushing to sell either. It will be here for a while.

Wow, I sooo would like another SS! I've a silver one. To have one dailydriver and one full on SCREAMER! but my trans is kinda broken.. It seems that I was trying to make mine the screamer and all that attention to a completly new engine build, I forgot about the trans.. :P I suppose I should fix what I've broken before I go with another car...

Oh and your price isn't bad, I paid about 2,000 for mine originally and have LOTS in it over the last two years... I'm sitting somewhere near $5k.. but it's so flipping sweet!

I only live a little ways from you too, I'm in Macon, MO...

a best of luck bump!

Is this a 5MT? How does the transmission shift? This car is right in my price range for my one a year trip back to the states. It would save me from having to pay $500 every time on a rental car. I understand the issues and I would like to fix her up. I could probably convince my brother to drive out and pic this up.

Thanks guys. I really really really hate to sell this car, and like I said, if I don't I wont be too upset. I'll garage her and fix her when I have spare time/money.

No Macon is not far. If you want to come see it, drop me a PM or a call.

5MT, little rough going into second gear, but not bad enough to cause a problem. A few well spent dollars would bring this back to a nice car. It was great when I got it, but the St.Louis roads took care of that.

My brother lives in Terre Haute, IN. I am obviously in Japan, but I am trying to see if I can give him $200 to go pick it up from you. I will let you know. Do you have the title free and clear? I didn't see the Apexi power intake listed, is that included?

I am still waiting to hear back from my brother. I have enough parts off of my GC8 here that I can ship back to fix all of the issues.

My brother said that he would pick it up, but I am still trying to find a place for it to stay. Can you post or email me many more pictures of everything.

Well I tried to convince several friends and family to let me park the car. I don't know what the big deal is, but all of them said no. I've never turned someone down when they needed to store something.

I just wanted to say this is a great deal and I am sorry I can't pick it up. I just found a BC5 here in Japan that I am going to pick up.

Ya know, that cars not rusty enough to be from Missouri.. :P My car is exceptionally clean and it's got the rocker panel and fender arch rust starting... Damn! You've no idea how badly I would like to pick up another subaru, but I still need a trans rebuild in my current one... This responsible *one project at a time method sucks*

Oh and my buddy just spent $2500 on a non-turbo VR6 Passat that ISN'T AWD, I was like pshaw, why didn't you tell me you were looking for a new car, I know where a good lil legacy that with a bit of attention could ROCK!

So not to worry, I'm spreading the word... I'm just needing to work on the proper timing part...
