3" inlet, twin outlet - options?

Post by skid542 »

Well as much as I love my new exhuast, it's just a litte too loud, and a little too flashy for everyday driving. Apparently you aren't allowed to modify your exhaust in Idaho so I figure if I've got a stock looking muffler the noise won't be as much of an issue.

For those that haven't seen the new pics, it's a 3" TBE with a 4" unrolled tip. I really like how the twin tips look and am also thinking that it'll quiet things down a little. I know it's a 3" TBE so it's going to be fairly loud, but not the same as what I currently have :).

All the searching that I've done turns up plenty of pictures, but no matching model numbers. I'm basically wanting to just order the muffler then install it myself.

So throw it at me, any suggestions/comments are welcome.

Thanks
Lee

The Vibrant here seems like a good deal...Relatively plug and play, not to flashy but nice...Jeremy at Crucial is from Spokane originally, so...

The Magnaflow I just installed on mine had the outlets far apart. It made it kind of a pain to install the tips and they came out kind of crooked (I need to redo 'em).
But I like the sound a lot. And the tips actually quieted it down a lot.

Hey here's a good little story for you guys with exhaust's that you bought for a WRX or whatever and didn't custom make yourself.

My friend (who's mom is a well-known attorney) was riding in my car with me, when I got pulled over because of having a modified exhaust.

All of a sudden my friend butted in and explained to the officer that my exhaust was not modified, but rather a 'direct replacement.' According to Espelir (my exhaust setup) and many other performance exhaust brands, their exhausts do not exceed a sound decibel limit of 95 and will pass emissions perfectly.

The cop was like "Oh ok then. Have a nice day." and let me go.

Lee, as far as I know ADA county (Boise) is the only place that has emissions and exhaust requirements. Here in Latah I get no trouble, and never in any other Idaho county I have managed to be stopped in (only a couple others). Mine isn't flashy, but its loud.

Sometimes I wish I had a quiet exhaust, but that lovely WOT roar is easy to forgive.

Were you stopped by an officer or something?

Chris, yeah I got pulled over the other week for "making three lane changes in a block without my blinker and having a modified exhaust". The lane change thing was BS, I think I just upset the cop because I hammered down on first from the line and then let off so I was never speeding and he just didn't like it. Even wrote on my registration that he warned me for a modified exhaust - I'll be getting a new registration paper shortly. That's really interesting what you say though, I tried searching for Idaho muffler laws on google and Nabisco with no real results.

On a quick side note Chris, did you get my PM?

My exhaust is also a bit loud/flashy for my taste - though I do really like it. But the real decision to swap mufflers is when I took a corner squelling tires pretty hard and could barely hear them. I've always used that slight chirp as an audible que for how hard I'm pushing my tires and I'd really like to keep that.

Right now I'm leaning toward the 24" MagnaFlow - http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shop ... in&id=6958.

I think it looks slick and would like to know more about it.

I might have to make a muffler to get what I want. I cannot seem to find anyone who makes a 3" inlet dual outlet muffler that isn't a pile of garbage.
