Ghetto 2 level boost controller

Post by BXSS »

Has anyone over here made a ghetto 2 level boost controller?

I made one using a ebay MBC, a DSM boost solenoid (use a charcoal canister purge solenoid), & a switch.
The total cost was under $30.

It was super easy and allows you to run wastegate boost when you want, & MBC level when the switch is activated.

Basically the boost controller vent is blocked by the solenoid when it is in the closed (off) position causing air not to be bled & boost not to pass wastegate levels.
When the solenoid is activated (on) the pressure is released through the vent allowing the MBC boost level to be attained.

You'll have to play with the MBC & restrictors to get to your desired High boost level - just don't over-boost & explode!!!

super simple!

I did a similar thing with an SS factory boost control solenoid...and I have a solenoid of a T-bird TC that I am gonna try.

I like to have extra boost available when I need/want more power, but don't like beating the car or my wallet (gas is 3.99/gal over here) by running high boost all the time.
A 2 level boost controller does this with no problem.

I'm also a sneeky SOB so having multiple boost levels available from in the car works well for me.

I have HKS EVC-EZs in both my cars now (off = wg boost, high = whatever you set the controller to), but plan on putting a OLD EVC-II in the SS giving me a total of 4 boost levels selectable from the drivers seat.

I'm thinking 8psi-off, 10psi-low, 13psi-med, 15-17psi-hi (depending on what the EGTs look like).
