Clutch Pedal on Floor

Post by 93Subadan »

So I recently found a guy nearby selling his Legacy for a couple hundred with only 150,000 miles on it because the clutch pedal occasionally stays on the floor when pushed. I really want to use this as a parts car, but that will require driving it from CO to CA. I don't want to put much money into this car...do you think that the intermittent clutch problem is because of air in the line or something more serious? My other subaru is an AT, so unfortunately I don't know shit about the MT. Any help appreciated, thanks! :-D

Is it a turbo legacy? If it's a first gen legacy n/a, it has a cable clutch.

It's a 1993 NA Legacy Sedan MT. Realized I should have posted that right after I submitted it  , shows how little I know about the MT.

According to my Hayne's manual it could be a bind in the cable or release bearing or a weak clutch pressure plate. Does this sound right? I hope it's only something with the cable, dropping the clutch and messing with it could cause more headaches than the car is worth.

Yeah I'd check the cable first. Anything beyond that, you'd have to drop the trans.

Yeah I Just looked at it and the guy had rigged a string to pull the clutch pedal back up  ...so yeah, not just the cable.

Is the pedal return spring broken by chance? You should be able to look at it. Also, if you move the pedal back up by hand, does it snap back up?
