Legacy TCU trouble codes

Post by glmce@hotmail.com »

Hello
I previously reported I have a flashing transmission "power" light. I
recently replaced the tranny and need to decide whether to pull it
out again and exchange it. At the suggestion of Rod (thank you!) I
searched the BC-BF files for the "Diagnostics" allowing me to read
the trouble codes in the TCU (transmission control unit).

The existing trouble codes showed:
12 = Duty solenoid B
22 = Atmospheric sensor

The previous trouble codes also showed:
24 = Duty solenoid C

Can anyone give me an idea of what these codes indicate?
Are these Major problems..Minor problems?

What do the duty solenoids do?

What does the atmospheric sensor do? Where is it located?

Any information will be greatly appreciated

Gary

Legacy TCU trouble codes

Post by Rod Grosvenor »

Gary-The codes you`ve indicated were probably from your old tranny. They stay in memory until they`re removed (see the same file for that info.) If you unplug the connector that tightens up the shifts, it`ll put that code in & cause the light to flash, also. Follow the procedure to clear the codes & leave your tranny`s connections stock for the time being. If the flashing power light goes away, you`re OK. BTW, unplugging the aforementioned connector will NOT hurt the trans, only help it. Good luck---ROD (AZ.)

Legacy TCU trouble codes

Post by glmce@hotmail.com »

Rod
I switched the TCU, putting in the one that came from the donor
vehicle. The TCU diagnostics allows codes for both existing and
previous problems to be read. The codes for existing problems come
and go with the problems. The codes for previous problems include
both current and past problems. For example I removed the connector
that tightens up the shifts. Using the existing problem diagnostics,
this caused code 11 to read out along with codes 12 and 22. When I
reconnected the connector code 11 disappeared from the current
problem codes but was left in the previous problem codes along with
the others. Because of this I believe I am currently having problems
with shift solenoid B (code 12) and the atmospheric sensor(code 22).

I'm still trying to find out what the functions are for these
functions.
