Holy f'in crap. Of all the things I look out for on the highway, wheels coming from the sky isn't on the list. Screw-on wheels aren't even meant for road use, are they?

Not sure how common, but over 10 years ago my dad's Chevy Sprint was also totalled by a tire. The c-clip came out of a Jeep rear axle and allowed the tired, drum and axle to slide out.

Luckily it hit the front of the hood/grill area then bounced over the car and safely into a corn field. That guy in the bimmer is lucky to be alive.

On the same topic... I had worked with Gavin for a summer before he was killed by a metal shelving unit that fell off a pickup truck on Interstate 5 last year.

A friend of mine had some rebar fall off in front of him and slice into his Cavalier like Samari swords. He had to jack up the car and pull one of them out through the sill to open the passenger door. That was the miracle Cavalier that finally blew a head gasket at over 300k.

One of my friends was driving from nebraska to see me one time, he was driving down I-80 and a semi truck tire rolling down the road took out his car. They have serial numbers on them and it turned out the company he works for, werner trucking owned the truck.

The company I work for does the service on the DOT cameras in our state. We were able to see in better clarity than the evening news, and it's entirety, how a tanker truck lost a wheel. It rolled towards the barrier median at about 60 mph, jumped into the air at an extreme arc, and just pulverized some dude's minivan on the other side of the freeway. It came down right into the driver side A pillar. Luckily, the guy only got some cuts and scrapes from all the glass around him instantly exploding. I bet he shit his pants. I know I would have.

A couple months prior to that, the well-respected head doctor at a local hospital died from a loose semi wheel. It went right through the windshield of his BMW early in the morning. He was the guy who delivered the bad news to my family after my dad had a heart attack and was brain-dead. He was such a great doctor, and something like 2,000 people showed up for the poor guy's funeral.

I urge everyone to check up on your lug nuts periodically, like every oil change or something. And call in anyone who appears to have a dangerously loose wheel. Freak accidents do happen, but this kinda shit can be prevented in most cases.

Detroit roads worked one of the wheels loose on my 84 GL and you could feel it and hear it, but the cause wasn't obvious until the holes in the wheels had worn enough and the lug nuts chewed up a little. Getting a new wheel was funny since most junk yards had never heard of Subaru (or so they claimed). I could have been asking for Lancia parts, but I did eventually find one. Also had one of my alloys get loose in Boston on my 83 GL, but that time I pulled over right away and tightened them. Damn NTB!

What are you doing on bimmerforums? I just sold a 89 E30 on there. It had a full custom suspension, I did not know this until I had sold it though:( But still made 200$ on the deal :)
