So...my SS has been having boosting issues for quite a while now. I thought maybe the turbo was bad, but I disassembled it and found it to be in great shape. The symptoms are that the turbo will only make wastegate boost, even with the boost controller closed completely.

So far I have replaced:

Uppipe
AWIC
AWIC inlet pipe
Turbo (tried a TD04, did the same thing)
Vacuum hoses
Removed/Resealed Intake Manifold
Changed silicone between AWIC and throttle body

None of these things helped. I am out of ideas...

Plugged exhaust?

Did you try with nothing connected to the wastegate actuator? Maybe you boost controller is passing even when 'closed'?

If your can't get more boost and your sure the intake and exhaust are free flowing, I can only suspect the turbo itself.

The bypass valve leaking?
The engine itself dieing and can't push the turbo anymore?
Triple check for intake and exhaust leaks?

Out of ideas, I guess.

I changed the bypass valve to a Bosch one...so I have pretty well ruled that out...

As far as intake restrictions, I don't think there are any.

I haven't cleaned my K & N for a while...but that wouldn't yield these kinda results methinks

I'd say a boost leak.

But

This past weekend a friend of mine had a similar problem with a turbo'd KA24 in a 1977 Datsun B210.
He swappped turbos & WGs but still had the problem, then he swapped boost gauges as the turbo could be heard spooling.
Turns out the boost gauge would register Vac but would not register boost.

what boost control are you running? What boost should you be expecting? What turbo are you using?

What is your watsegate boost? 5psi or 9psi?

It hasn't been said yet, and I've seen it at least twice... Have you checked inside the intake tract for a rag, or some restriction like that?

Hopefully that's the issue, and it isn't something else that killed your VF8.

Maybe the bearings were going out in the VF8.
Try a turbo without poopy pants and report back.
