Both? Thats sort of a strange request. Usually people want Taller tires so they get better snow traction/clearance and you want a skinny tire to increase the contact pressure.

On the other hand people who want wider tires usually are trying to get more traction and they may even go with a smaller circumference tire to increase mechanical advantage / acceleration.

With that said here is a data point that may help - stock wrx wheels with new 205 55 16 tires installed rubbed slightly on my spring perch. I fixed it with a sledgehammer ;)

sad to say that i just think my current 185/65/14's look awfully small in that wheel well :) i gave up my wrx wheels for these alloys w/14's and of course lost alot of tread "view". wouldnt also mind a little more stability in those nice on and off ramps :)

nah, will stick with the 14" ones....i know it sounds strange but it deals with an experience i had with a cherokee i use to own, i modded it all up with lift kit/big tires and rims/lights/suspension ect...it all got destroyed in less then a second when a girl blew off a stop sign and i t-boned her at around 60, destroyed her car and mine, she got off with lacerations and just broke a couple of ribs. but all that time and $ went up in smoke in less then a second and i dont want that to happen again. i know it sounds paranoid and it probably is but thats how i feel. so, nice, big 14" tires it will be :)

I would not be surprised if you compared two equal performing tires, one 15 inch and one 14 inch, that the 15 inch would be cheaper.
