I have to send those out separately. I'm getting 50 copies, mostly for local distribution, but I can also send them out autographed. Otherwise, you'll have to order it from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. and ship it to me, then I'll send it back to you and that's kind of stupid. It's already going to be kind of expensive IMO.

I'm supremely excited to read this book. I KNOW that Steve is a madman, and I KNOW there's going to be stuff written that isn't put down in words. Just reading a few of the descriptions, I have a feeling it's as innocent looking on the surface as "The Giver" or "The Sun Also Rises".

When is it available for purchase? I can't wait!

It's at the printer. Again. It had to be resubmitted since the resolution for the picture of me (that they could have lost anyway) and the silhouette of the wagon on the dedication page (which was a cool surprise by Mark) was too low. It should only be a matter of a couple weeks unless there's another friggin' delay, which wouldn't surprise me (but still wouldn't stop me from swearing about it). But it will be in the Ingram Advance, which is a catalog that goes to the book store buyers so that they know what new books are in print. Price went up another dollar. They talked me into it. Or at least the extra $.50/book did. It's a little higher than similar length/size books, but this is a more selective demographic than something people would buy on price when debating which book to get for a beach day.

What I'm thinking is that people can paypal me the money and I'll sign the copy and ship them out from the small inventory I'm getting. It may take a little longer since the turnaround to ship from the printer is 48 hours, but I'll try to be on top of it.

I'm getting really good response from the first book, but the second one, I feel, is much better. I know, way to sell myself, right? Enzo Ferrari said his favorite Ferrari was the next one and I now understand how he felt. I hope to get #2 in the works this year, but I also want to get started on the Cessna-car project, so we'll see.

The third book will separate the casual fans from those who get what the series is about, but I think it should be interesting. I've seen nothing else like it. The Sopranos' Tony Soprano character seemed to want to go the same way, but ultimately Chase kept the character from really evolving beyond a sociopathic thug. I felt it was a missed opportunity (though fortunate as I wouldn't want to end up rehashing something else's themes, especially something so recent and popular), but the Tony character was far less insightful and decent than my Dante Moretti or really almost all my main characters. There will be four books in this series with a probable fifth as an off-shoot with one of the other characters.

your "POPULATION IN BALANCE" ideal creates a (edit) potential (/edit) problem:

bias in the gene pool.

how will that be prevented?

I don't see the bias at all. The point is to reduce the incidence of unqualified people from breeding as well as preventing unwanted pregnancies that presently result in neglected and abused children. If you're implying racial bias somehow, testing is done only to those who WANT to reproduce and beyond resource and psych test scores, applicants are entirely anonymous to judges on the Resource Board. Those who aren't terribly bright will still pass testing as it's not an intelligence exam - it's an exam to see if someone is fit to parent (no more people having babies to keep a guy who's trying to leave or to fill their empty lives). As for the children born to those that pass, there's no way to guarantee they'll be smart or stupid, strong or weak by their parentage, hence the testing later on for school. Gifted people are born to the useless and vice versa, which is why hereditary systems don't work. Stupid people are as necessary as intelligent people as long as they are raised to be decent.

The site isn't done yet. Besides some proofreading errors, I want the links to be hidden with the home page only displaying the choices for Creation and Evolution with a few of the links in Creation also showing up under the Evolution page (since they apply to both groups of people). Mark at the publisher also had a lot of changes he suggested. So far his ideas have been great, so I'm sending them to my web guy. That's why I got the site maintenance part of he contract.

i wasn't pointing out racial bias at all, i am pointing out that the people that "create" irresponsible
and non-productive members of society serve a purpose also. which you stated.

my bias was coming from the fact that some people couldn't take the test (which is a good thing in most instances), or the test would have to be paid for in some way in order to support the Board members/ commitee that decides people's reproductive fate.

If you can't afford to take the test, then you can't have kids..?

The test is free to anyone, but not everyone would pass. Passing it primarily requires a stable environment and mind. A Free & Easy Plan couple would probably have an easier time of it if they only wanted a couple kids as their residence and job is provided for, but more than a few kids would be tough as they wouldn't have the space or income allowance for more. Independent people would have to prove income beyond a certain level and would by no means have to be rich (in fact, the rich people may have a tougher time of it as nobody wants spoiled kids, so they'd have to pass a test for allowing for the self-sufficiency of their offspring). If you don't have the minimum level of space and income, you can't have kids (though I suppose a black market may arise with doctors illegally pulling sterilizing implants, but that would require money to have done, so that leaves psychological failures with money a route to parenthood. No system is perfect. We could always issue licenses, but those can be faked and I don't like the idea of cops running around asking people for their parenthood license. "Papers, please.").

You need a license for fishing and have to prove income to buy a house, but kids require nothing. You can be a crack head and the government considers that to be fine. It's not. Raising kids is a tough, expensive job that requires self sacrifice. I couldn't do it and I probably wouldn't pass my theoretical test (even if I wanted to).

None. As it says, everyone is implanted with a sterilizing device that can only be removed upon approval from the Resource Board. You can only have a kid if you really want one and can meet the requirements. I would envision the requirements wouldn't be impossible to pass - the elimination of accidental pregnancy would likely reduce the population enough that the test could be fairly lenient, with the stress being on keeping addicts, the self-absorbed, and the sociopaths from passing.
