thanks, I will see if that will work, I assume the 98 lgt timing belt is what I would use for a timing belt as well?

Please try this out, I have yet to find a conclusive answer about the valve cover gaskets.

The timing belt for V1 EJ20G heads is part number 13028AA072.

This is funny, I actually "ordered" these the other day from AutoZone. But you know how most of those places are, they only operate via year/make/model/engine.

So, my dumb ass tells the guy "eh, it's a '95 Subaru Impreza, it has a 2.0L motor, just order the one's for the 2.2, those should work". And then as I'm walking out the door I realize, "hey dumbshit, you just ordered USDM SOHC gaskets for a JDM DOHC motor" It's the story of my life with cars, I guess.

At least they ordered them without making me pay, they never will see that $30.

picked up gaskets for the heads, I went to the subaru dealership and got a discount with the minnesota subaru club.
I will get a part number later but any phase 1 usd gaskets work.

There are also 3 different types of gasket sets for for the EJ20G heads. Subaru here can't tell you which gaskets to order by just the vin number you have to choose which is correct based on the old gaskets.

So the gaskets were different between individual cars of the same model?
You can't order 1989 Legacy RS Ver. 1 EJ20G gaskets from Subaru?

The guys at Super Autobacs (Tokyo Bay) said they needed the VIN to order the correct gaskets, but there was also something about different versions. They didn't speak perfect English and I didn't speak any Japanese, so something was probably lost in translation.

Yeah the difference I know of is in the way the webbing (not the right word, but you get the idea) comes into the head. Some heads had more lines of webbing and others had less. There are also different gaskets for the spark plug holes, but I think they are all the same for the EJ20G.

Are the spark plug gaskets the same as '98 USDM DOHC? Or the same as another US model?
