sometimes I just feel bad...
Have you ever been walking, then you realize that you are catching up to an old person using a walker, or maybe a person in a wheel chair?
When you zoom past with your perfectly functioning legs, how do you feel?
It makes me feel horrible!!!! Ok, maybe not horrible but kinda bad, I mean, there they are scraping/rolling along. And you glide by them. I wonder how they feel...
lol, these are deep thoughts!

I fall down in front of them, faking a siezure, flip out my legs, trip them, then jump up and dance!

Not quite to the same effect, but I hate it when I'm running on the track, and run by someone in rehab for an injury.
I don't walk anywhere very often.

Yeah....I had a buddy in memphis. He had an SVX, drove it with hand controls, and he drove the thing like a badass. We hit about 140+ on the freeway coming back from playing air hockey one night.93forestpearl wrote:BTW, people in wheelchairs don't want you to feel bad. My buddy is a quadriplegic since 16 years old, and they just want to be thought of as another person.

To be clear... it's "awesome" that he didn't let his disabilities get him down... not "awesome" that he does 140+ on the freeway. *hint hint, wink wink*

I dont feel any more badly for them than would I expect them to feel for me and my physical issues. I think you will find that the majority of people out there with some sort of condition or disability just want to be treated like the average joe. Treating them differently will only damage their pride and self esteem which may already be fragile to begin with. Just my .02 worth.

I would hate for anyone to give me special treatment. I like to go about my business with as little human interaction as possible and extra attention by those feeling bad for me would piss me off even more than the inconvenience of a damaged body. This is assuming I wouldn't just have killed myself upon learning an injury was permanent. I hate the natural body functions I must endure, I can't imagine what a miserable prick I'd be if I were disabled. I just have no patience.
On a related note, I read about a guy who modified a motorcycle for paraplegics. I'm still not exactly sure how they would balance or what they'd do once they got to a destination, but it's a cool project. I'd be a maniac on it if I were paralyzed. After all, you're already paralyzed, what's the worst that could happen to you?

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

it's ILLEGAL to pump your own gas in oregon... wow.
that seriously compares to zimbabwe's economy in terms of stupidity.
that's got corporate control written all over it. great

In NJ, it's illegal because there's so many things you can do to blow up the gas station. Between people overflowing the gas out of their cars, to smoking while pumping, filling leaky containers, etc, the state figures that a 19 year old high school drop out making $4/hour will save the environment from the destructive forces of improper fuel dispensing practices. After all, the amount of gas spilled at station each year could power <insert astonishing number derived from actual science, because scientists say it is> cars for the next <insert intelligent guess of guy with furry eyebrows and a British accent> years
Last time I got gas in NJ I told the guy to put $40 in. He let it fill up, and it was $52. I just paid the rest in plastic money, but thinking back, if I claimed to only have that $40, they would've had to give me $12 in free gas since it was their fault
(unless they're cheapassed enough to have a metering pump to take the extra gas out of the car)

I had a guy riding with me one time in NJ, years ago, who tossed his cig out the window at the pump buys feet as he started to full up. Talk about a shit storm. He kicked us out of the fill station without our gass which sucked since we were on a highway and empty.
