I was just curious if any of you guys had ever been over to that part of the world? She got a scholarship from our zoo and she will be studying these guys.

I went there for a few monthes a few years back. There are lot's of fun times on the islands, Koh Samed etc. Stay away from Khow San road, it's really touristy and a waste of time. Nong Khai in the north west is a really nice place to go as well. Make sure she get's out to the surrounding countries too like Cambodia (it's a great way to get your visa renewed). It was a long time ago so I can't remember many more names of cities just remember, get out of Khow San road, don't trust the "cheap city tuk tuk tours", and never EVER give the little begger kids anything or you will be swarmed, and most likely robbed :P don't worry they are eating. Laos (north of Thailand) has the highest rate of poverty but the lowest rate of starvation in the world (rice is wonderful).

My experience is with Egypt, but I would recommend not wearing jewelry or watches.
Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

I've heard tales of nights in Bangkok. Just one can make even the toughest of guys tumble.

But seriously, apparently the "shows" are a sight to behold. She should go see one!
