Ignition problem

My car has learned a new trick. It doesn't turn over so well. I think my
wife has been teaching it to do this. It certainly never used to happen when
I drove it. Just goes to show you what happens to the kids when Daddy's not
around... \

Turn the key "clack" then nothing. No combustion. Just "clack" when you turn
the key. Turn the key repetitiously and you get "clack, clack, clack" ad
infinitum... Until it turns over, then it runs without challenge until I
turn it off. When it's warm, there tends to be a better percentage chance it
will turn over.

I checked the battery terminal connections - look solid, I just cleaned the
terminals recently... Give it enough turns of the key and eventually it will
catch. This tells me (haven't looked under the hood... yet) that the "clack"
is probably spark. It has new plugs, old wires (I've beeen meaning to
upgrade to Mag's for sometime now), and an old battery (like the warranty is
just about up on it, but I've never run it dry) so this leads me to think
fuel pump (I just changed the fuel filter a few months ago).

SO before I go digging around in the manuals, and looking under the hood:

Anyone out there experienced this? Thoughts? Ideas?

i just had a problem that sounded rather similar, i just had to
rebuild my starter.

Either your battery is gone, or your alternator is not charging it
properly.
