replace valve stem seals

Post by tucson_legacy »

I've got a '93 Legacy wagon with 180,000MI, wife's daily driver.
Great compression - 175-180 psi each cylinder
Leakdown test - 7%-9% each cylinder
No external oil leaks. Running 10W-40.
Blue smoke on deceleration and occasionally on startup.
Uses a quart in 800MI. More on the highway at speed.

I'm assuming either the valve guides or seals are shot.

Anyone here replaced only valve stem seals with the engine in the car?

Thanks
'93 Legacy Wagon, 170K, bought it new.
