I'm working long hours for you guys..
Ok apprently there are still some unknowns, still some questions floating around, still some weary idaviduals..and i DO NOT want to rush anyone..
i would rather make sure EVERYONE has the facts before i lay down a deadline..
SO the monday deadline is postponed..for a bit..
i would like to now address some conserns that were sent to me.
(1a) Who will do the fabrication?
A.B.E. Fiberglass
4250 Lehigh Drive
Cherryville, PA
(610)-767-6464 ask for Biff
(1b) Where is the fabricator located?
Answered above. But to be more exact they are with in 25 minutes of me.
(1c) Have you seen an example of their work on a similar product?
On several occations. mostly funny car skins, and Pro-AM body work.
(2a) The end product will be a fiberglass hood, with the larger hood scoop used on later model years, and vents already cutout, is this correct?
Actually in the poll i beleve it was a 50/50 decision.. with 12 people voteing.. 6 for each answer.. so no desision was made.. so it remains as it was originaly intended, Big scoop off a 99 RS, and the vent's will be missing the grill work. which once purchaced the grill work comes with a new set of vents, it will be up to the fiberglass guy to see if it is possiable to make a mold of the RS vent grills. other wise i belive the grill work is 22something from subaru..
(2b) The new hood owner will need to provide all hinges, brackets, ducting, latches, hardware, and etc., is this correct?
No, the user will be able to use all exsisting components from old hood as NONE of the latches, hinges, bolts, brackets EVER changed between 90-95. the hood WILL be 100 percent bolt up.. but as said before investing in a set of hood pins would be recomended..
(2c) Will new hood be ready to accept all or any fittings or will installer need to drill, trim, shim, etc.?
some light trim, sanding my be required, but i plan on haveing all the hoods primed at my own expense.. all the holes should be fine but as this is fiberglass some holes my have to be rebored..i do recomend that you have a body shop install...
(3a) Will the new hood duplicate the 91 or the 92-94?
so far the majority is 2, 91's to various..other years, this can change if a certain year becomes dominate, and price isen't a problem as 91-94 hoods at my dealership were all the same price.. infact 92-94 are the same parts number.
(3b) Could you please be more specific about the nature and location of the differences of the 91 vs 92-94?
No differances, mounting wise..latch locations are the same scoop hole is in the same place , but i'll bet it's moved a couple mm between years..
The Turbo Legacy hood scoop is functional, and has an underside duct which directs cooling air onto the turbo.
(4a) Will the new larger hood scoop underside be shaped so as to remain compatible with the stock ducting without compromising any of its' effectivity?
This is an item i forgot, that perticular peice could not be made in fiberglass as one whole peice and would have to be molded seperately..raiseing the price.. the user Can use the exsisting "funnel" work off thier old turbo hood and affix (there were no holes planed for this so this is where a pro body shop would come in handy)..
If this poses a serious consern for the many.. i will look into buying a turbo funnel peice to make sure mounting is available.. again this may be a deferance between years, but seeing as they use the same engines i don't see that poseing a serious problem..
You touched on a very important subject in your last post. You wrote;
"The RS scoop is more expensive, but it makes up for shipping we would have had to pay to get it here from Australia."
(5a) Will the fabricator ship to you, or drop ship to the individual end users?
I will ship it to each of the buyers, shipping would be around 90 bucks.. as far as getting the hoods.. they are 25min away.. haveing them picked up is not a problem.
(5b) If hoods will be shipped to you, have you allowed for shipping costs from the fabricator to you in your final price?
yes. as mentioned above.
If not please for your own sake find out what it will be. It is a recurring cost that can cause problems if it adds 25 or 30% to the final price.
(5c) Do you think it might be a good idea to give a max shipping cost to the furthest location in the US from the point of shipment origin, whether from you or the fabricator?
this is a hard thing to quote.. shipping of a letter and the shipping of a 25+pound 8.2square ft hood are to diferant things... untill they are made i will not know how much one will weigh which most shippers are very conserned about than and over all size... as i've said before.. it was 90 bucks shipping from an online parts store to ship me a hood from FLA to PA.. which is pretty far..
(6a) Do you think it might be a good idea to check out a couple of cost estimates for removing old hood, old hood hardware, and old hood turbo ducting, then installing old hardware on new hood, installing old turbo duct under new hood scoop, painting new hood, and installing new hood?
This is not what i'm offering.. When JC sport or MRT sell Fiberglass/ aluminum / carbon-fiber body work it is already assumed that JCsports/MRT are not responceable for mounting or installation.. all the holes are there.. it will be bolt up.. painting and touch up are up to the purchaser i don't want to be mean.. but i've seen JC sports RS bumper skins, they send em right outta the mold covered in scrap for you the customer to shave off..i don't plan on doing that.. that how one gets a bad reputation..and i'm trying to do the oppisite.
I hope this has cleared things up a bit.. about the hoods.
Bumpers Questions
First off there is no rush about the bumperskins.. as only 2 people includeing myself have expressed interest in them. but i will answer these questions as well.
1:Also can you assure me that this will be a complete bolt up job?
Thats what were aiming for. To insure a PERFECT fit i would definately recomend haveing a body shop install i know i am..
But to make it easier on ya..
The way this will be made is.. as followes they will take a RS bumper skin and MAKE it bolt up to my car (the only car i have available to me)..how will they make it fit.. well after RIPPING my old bumper cover off they are going to compare the mounting holes and body snaps from the 2 and cut what isen't needed off the RS and ADD or MOVE what is needed to fit my car (91 subaru legacy LS) once it is a perfect fit.. they will make a mold.. so that all you will have to do is mount..
now those with a 91 subaru legacy will have NO problems.. those of you who have other years? i don't know.. seriously i don't know, but if any of you in or around the PA are wish to visit me for a bit and don't mind sacraficeing the front of your car for a day or 2 feel free to drop by, and we'll see the diferances.. my main reason for not knowing is the parts pictures in the parts department are not very descriptive they have illustarions but not as detailed as they could be.
2:Or will I need to get some sort of bracket behind it to stiffen it up? you shouldn't, it should mount right over your exsisting bumper with little to no mods.(ie sanding)
3:I know it wont come with the lights, but is there a mounting kit that
usually comes with the rs that wont come with a light kit?
No. I have definately looked into this several times, once on behalf of the imprezza RS list. the bumper skins come with nothing but the skin.. they have holes to attach a mounting kit.. but you WILL have to buy the mounting kit, the lights (which i belive there is a better kit on MRT) and your wireing harnesses.. other wise go to your local import shop and buy as much of that color anodised chicken wire and go to town.
Thank you for your time and continueing support
