CodeMasters - WTF? I just got GRID.

Post by New92 »

Dont know if any of you have tried out GRID yet? I have and Im pissed. I love the realism of Codemasters games. The last I bought was CMR '04, I even ordered it from Europe since the US version was no longer available. GRID is gorgeous, it looks like a million bucks. It has some of the coolest cars Ive found in a racing sim. The locations are superb. So why am I bit***ng? Cause I cant finish a single event without spiraling through the air in a spectacular display of CG physics. Either Im getting old or the Codemasters team was enjoying cocktail of speed coke and meth during the games creation. The steering is super twitchy(Oversteer anyone?), acceleration hammers you with just the slightest touch of the button, and heaven forbid you get nudged from behind______KABOOM!! I love replaying wrecks....just not my own.

After Colin's unfortunate passing I was intent on trying one of his games and eventually found a CMR3 to try out on my PS2. I remeber being dissapointed with the control inputs. Thay also were all twitchy and sensitive. I think it may be a Codemaster thing.

Dirt is more laid back, but oversteer is better than the understeer I get in GT4

I've found that a controller with analog sticks (a ps2 controller for example) just doesn't do a game like GT4 or the CMR justice.

I bought GT4 and ended up giving it away because I hated trying to drive with two stupid joy sticks. I was able to adjust to CMR3 with the controller though, it just takes some time.

a good Force-Feedback steering wheel and proper seat is the only way to go IMHO.

ps - I love DIRT, its a great game.

CMR04 and CMR05 were basically the same game, and no doubt the best in the series. Tried the DIRT demo and found it interesting, but a PITA.

TOCA/DTM/V8 Supercars Race Driver 2/3 are somewhat the same story. Really fun, interesting story and agreeable physics. Sounds like GRID fell prey to whatever changes they did for DIRT.

I wasn't impressed at all with DIRT. It looks spectacular, and is fun to play, but I was really dissappointed by the 1-point physics. I was really hoping to have better driving dynamics accompany the new crash dynamics. And I had no intention of trying GRID, since the DIRT physics engine doesn't seem like it would translate into good circuit racing. Spectacular crashes may be awesome, but on a paved track they ideally wouldn't even occur during a race, let alone be intentionally provoked by the AI and physics

No dammit! If GT5 comes out then I will have no more excuses not to buy a PS3! That money's supposed to go towards my intercooler :(

+1 for GT4, still my favorite. I did really enjoy CMR but just could not get over the frustration. I agree with Imprezive about the FF wheel, it would make a world of difference. It seems as though the games were designed around that particular controller.
